This quoting of “people said he’s the next Cafu” just makes me laugh , nobody as ever said that and funny nobody ever gets vaulted for it so why make it up? What people have seen for our U23s , England and in odd minutes for the first team is a capable attacking full back for his age no more no less. It’s as if people have never bothered to watch him play just happy to make up quotes, it really irritates me.
One of Kenny’s strengths is ability to link up with his midfielders , go down the wing and cross the ball to the forwards. He’s played that way for years in teams where often the ball is rolled out to a defender to start an attack, but when our tactics are for the goalkeeper to hoof the ball out to DCL and hope we get a throw in or a break it just bypasses any attacking full back whether it’s Baines or Coleman.
I wouldn’t disagree with the more realistic comments about his defending today, he’s got a lot to learn about positioning and defending in the PL, that’s hardly a surprise when he’s starting his first game. He’ll get better with experience , it’s whether he can become a decent PL defender or not . Our problem is we haven’t got a team with enough confidence to help him develop or cover up for the mistakes he’ll inevitably make as he learns.
