This quoting of “people said he’s the next Cafu” just makes me laugh , nobody as ever said that and funny nobody ever gets vaulted for it so why make it up? What people have seen for our U23s , England and in odd minutes for the first team is a capable attacking full back for his age no more no less. It’s as if people have never bothered to watch him play just happy to make up quotes, it really irritates me.
One of Kenny’s strengths is ability to link up with his midfielders , go down the wing and cross the ball to the forwards. He’s played that way for years in teams where often the ball is rolled out to a defender to start an attack, but when our tactics are for the goalkeeper to hoof the ball out to DCL and hope we get a throw in or a break it just bypasses any attacking full back whether it’s Baines or Coleman.
I wouldn’t disagree with the more realistic comments about his defending today, he’s got a lot to learn about positioning and defending in the PL, that’s hardly a surprise when he’s starting his first game. He’ll get better with experience , it’s whether he can become a decent PL defender or not . Our problem is we haven’t got a team with enough confidence to help him develop or cover up for the mistakes he’ll inevitably make as he learns.

Poor today and if Martina played like that would be crucified.

However, he's a young player playing in a awful team at the minute, whose manager's obsession with number 10's leaves fullbacks completely exposed. Like Martina against Spurs, leave any world class fullback exposed against 2 or 3 quality players and they will be punished - never mind an inexperienced kid.

He will be fine.

Mate Martina has been playing that badly, against inferior opposition all season.

He was really, really poor mate, just like he was against Limassol.

It's fine, times on his side and he's got ability, but let's not dress it up. He was one of the poorest players on the pitch on a day where I would only have given Pickford anything more than 5/10.

Had he been given game time from the start of the season, against easier European opposition like Martina had, do you think he may have acclimatised?

Instead we have had Martina given game time, stinking the joint out, costing us goals every week, then when the teams confidence is shot Kenny gets thrown in against a resurgent Arsenal.

Not saying he hasnt but the abuse he got for the Spurs game when he had Davies, Erikson and Alli to contend with time after time while Rooney was hanging around the center circle was awful. I know he isnt the best but somtimes he's just blamed regardless.

Kenny was in exactly the same situation today. Was poor but was left exposed.

And up against one of if not the best winger in the league to boot.

I completely agree mate. I'm a big fan of the lad, just don't see the point in pretending he was anything other than dreadful today. He looked like he had his boots on the wrong feet half the time.

I'm still amazed at the low ratings of his performance he's getting on here. From what I saw the only error he made (a few errant long forward passes apart) was not to try and get close to Sanchez for Ozil's goal. Then again I guess he wouldn't have been expecting his CBs to give a free header to a player who never heads a ball never mind score with his head. After all, Baines always lets his winger make his cross.

The lad IS a player, make no mistake. Today for me he was not particularly good but as I say I didn't see him do a lot wrong of any significance.
