There aren't many players that age playing regularly in the league. Particularly centre mid. They are all showing a lot of promise.
I don't think @Banno believes the youngsters should be playing for the first team until they are able to do so at a certain level and on a consistent basis. Which I can understand that view if you believe our team should be competing for CL places.

Unfortunately, our board have left our squad completely bereft of senior cover in certain positions and, more importantly, what senior players we do have, have grossly under performed this season. Which means that more of our youngsters have been getting more game time for the first team that they should be at this stage in their careers. What makes matters worse, is that the senior players who should be making their introduction easier have basically downed tools and left them to sink or swim.

On the whole I think they've done very well and being thrown to the wolves, as they have been at times this season, will only benefit their development in the long term.

The danger with Banno's POV is that there is very little room within the first team set up to develop young players, as we see with the likes of Chelsea and Man City. Personally I think there should be a balance whereby we have a relatively small senior squad of 19/20 players, which are then supplemented from our development squad, with a view to maybe 2 a year being introduced gradually. I think we've had around 9/10 players this season aged 21 or younger who have represented the first team, and that's probably a bit on the high side if I'm being honest. Having said that, on the whole they have acquitted themselves a damn site better that the seniors.

Everyone saying Kenny won't get a look in when Coleman is back clearly hasn't learnt anything from the decline of Baines.
Coleman is 29 and coming back off a serious injury, he will need competition and eventually replaced and the signs suggest Kenny can be that player.

It is all ok though we gave Seamus a 5 year contract after a horrific leg break. I love the way we look after our players but it is a terrible business decision.

In fairness he was offered it before the incident and aged 28, 5 years would take him to 33 the age Baines is now and I’m pretty confident he’ll come back just as boss

Séamus is worthy of a gamble and even his presence is golden

Definitely think Kenny can be his replacement but wonder if he can a lot in at left back when Coleman is back over Baines - probable we would sign another LB in the window though

Something thatb hasn't been thought about, Coleman is absolutely gash at crossing, best cutting into the box - of the two he'd be the least affected by switching sides, in fact he';d be coming into the box on his right peg more
