Jonny Evans. Strongly linked by proper newspapers. Hmm.

Assuming he comes for, lets say, 6m upfront, then is he ?

Evans like Cleverly has suffered the bad rep from that season under Moyes.

Nearly right. They've both been suffering from frothing at the mouth kopite trolls on twitter, and the equally fervent kopite media.

According to the kopites, Gerrard was better than Scholes, lol, and Evans and Cleverly are crap. Sakho and Allen are ace though.

"Show us yer medals."

Ridiculous logic, by that token every transfer should be based on the supposed value 12 months hence.

In today's market with his contract length as it stands he's well worth £7m. If he had 3 years left he'd be worth more than double
Haha Johnny Evans in the summer of 2013 was valued around 16m +?? ....and you quote me saying ridiculous logic. Christ

Not a prayer should Everton football club be looking to sign a player for the figures quoted when in less than 12 months he becomes a free agent. Especially when you consider Jagielka (club captain) and Stones (best young defender in england/europe) are ahead of him, or would be.

Was what I was getting at, the overwhelming social media band wagon that loves labeling players crap. Like that Fellaini bloke. Or how Jags was at fault for England going out of the World Cup.

I'm honestly a bit bewildered. So we're likely signing a player in the best years of their career. They're experienced in the league and have won titles and played relatively regularly for Manchester United. That suggests the player has something about them.

Evans like Cleverly has suffered the bad rep from that season under Moyes. The new manager has come in and is throwing money at a wall and hoping it sticks.

The 7/8million fee reported is a little expensive for a player out of contract in a year BUT the market for footballers, particularly English players is absurd.

I don't see how people can complain when we're signing a player of reasonable quality who could feasibly compete for a first team place in a position which desperately needed to be filled. For a pittance in this inflated market. And we have the player for his best years.

TLDR; Evans will be decent, people need to lighten up.

Not at all, Cleverley has never been rated apart from his brief good 3 months at the start of 2011-2012. Jonny Evans had a brilliant loan at Sunderland and was part of our back four which kept 14 clean sheets in a row - Brown-Vidic-Evans-Evra Van Der Saar, He was brilliant alongside Rio in the 2011-12 season too and cemented his posistion as our number one center back alongside Rio in the 2012-2013 when we won the league. Under Moyes he rarely played and was mostly injured, when he did he was easily our best CB. When LVG there was even talk of him becoming captain he was rated that highly amongst United fans however this season he's been nothing short of a disgrace, yelling at younger teammates(shaw), error prone, weak and generally diabolical. His fall from grace is shocking as he didn't even look competent at times last season.

Are you saying Van Gaal isn't throwing money at a wall mate?

Exactly, for long periods united were terrible last year. Luckily enough the whole league bar Chelsea had similar issues.

Scapegoating is typical of football fans, typically glory hunters. Unlucky and unjustified, Evans he is wearing a bit of it.

However it seams United themselves still rate him. As they were asking 10mil with only a year left on his contract.

So you basically just contradicted yourself there, listing that he'd been quite good up until last season. One season doesn't make a player, what comes before and after does.
Pipe down kindly.

Evans was diabolical last year, a disgrace even to the shirt.

Maybe, but I always felt he looked better alongside Rio/Vidic and when he had to step up he was found wanting. Not someone you want in trenches. He failed to step up last year when our defence needed a leader luckily Smalling did.

Yeah whatever, basically you've hopped on the revisionist Evans is dead crap bandwagon off his performance over one year with a new manager.
