Every keeper makes mistakes, the better keeper make fewer mistakes and for a keeper who is still very much on a learning curve I would say that Pickford makes as few as anybody.

Pickford has made the international spot his own without a huge media campaign championing his cause and without the impetus that playing for a top four club gives... he has done this more or less on his own.

It is difficult to compare and contrast goalkeepers because so much depends on the players around them and the team they play in , but I think Pickford would compare favourably with any of those you mentioned.

Every player needs competition for their place. It's a scandal that Pickford hasn't at Everton. I dont think it's a coincidence that he's been atrocious this season when he hasn't had that competition.

I don’t think you do, I think some people on here want to just say ‘I told you so’ about some players if they start off with a particular stance on a player. For some reason Pickford is one of these players. Any mistakes he makes he’s jumped on.

The club provided him with no competition for his starting spot. Retaining Stekelenburg was just like them saying to him: "If you can do well for us that's great. If not, then you're the England GK and we can at least get publicity."

He's responded to that.

January we need a very good GK to take over from him if need be. The quality of the January acquisition will be determined by how well Pickford in the next two months turns this form around and starts performing like the GK he's reputed to be.

We signed a young goalkeeper in the summer. I think Stekelenburg was given a new deal as a stop gap to see how this young goalkeeper, who is highly rated by some, gets on before we get a new number 2. But I agree, Stekelenburg is way below standard.

Perhaps to stretch you even more , can I ask you to post an opinion of yours that is positive about Everton currently ?

There hasn't been that many. And the only quality ones who came here are Lehmann, Zeiler, Leno. Lehmann was a success, Zieler was brought in as a stand in for Schmeichel and Leno has been very good so far. The likes of Wessels was an understudy to Howard.

He's done more things right than he has wrong. He's still young and will make mistakes, that's how you get better.

Lehmann eventually, Zieler swiftly shipped back off to Stuttgart, Karius need I say more and Leno whom Emery would rather teach Cech how to kick rather than play him till now.

Lots of Bundesliga keepers look brilliant but not many I’ve seen do it when they move to another league.
