To be fair there are players who play a few good games and everybody thinks they're great. Look at Townsend at Palace, people were comparing him to Bale, now look where he is. I think it's really hard decent players, perhaps 10 years ago it was possible for players like Baines, Jags, Cahill, Lescott and Pienaar to move to a club for a small amount and turn into top class players, but it just doesn't happen anymore. As we found out with Williams, Klassen and Bolaise, a big price tag doesn't mean big performances. Personally I think it's wages, average players get paid, such huge amounts that they don't really need to try that hard. Even championship teams are paying huge fees. There was that player at Villa, who just couldn't be arsed going to training.
