That’s fair enough mate. I think what is clear is that he divides the fan base. Personally, If we got a big offer for him in the summer I’d be happy to let him go. For me he is too erratic, has poor concentration, doesn’t command his box well enough and doesn’t inspire confidence in his back line. All about opinions though, I know 50% of people who read this will think the complete opposite and think he’s a worldie. Yesterday he was ok though i thought.
He is ok most of the time but makes too many mistakes ATM. He's not the most pressing need to replace for me. A CB, ball playing midfielder and a goalscoring foreward to complement Richo and DCL are our most pressing need.
He is young and can get better. As I said they seems to be working on him as he has started to come and collect high balls.
But I've said a few times I prefer s taller keeper. Every corner is a nervy time with the opposition now targeting him by putting a player on him every corner. Think we could help by putting a player on the opposition player who is trying to block Pickford

Why did he need to block it? It was trickled straight down the keeper’s throat.

The answer to your question lies in what followed the shot.

Digne wouldn't have known how powerful the shot was until Benteke had taken it, by which time it would have been too late to stick a foot in. Also, had Benteke riffled the ball into the net giving Pickford no chance, everyone would have been asking "what was Digne doing letting him get the shot off?". That said, Pickford should have dealt with it comfortably.

One stats table I found has only Kepa as worse than him this season, and Kepa was dropped last match for Caballero. Unfortunately he makes a lot of mistakes. He might cut them out and improve, I suspect he won’t. Not our biggest issue right now but I’d take a lot of prem goalkeepers ahead of him. Matty Ryan from Brighton for one, if they were to go down.

Yesterday’s was unusual error, he’s normally a fine shot-stopper, it’s his lack of command of the penalty area that most concerns me. i accept the new breed of goalies are different and I’m old school, but he’s not a keeper I have confidence in.
The thing is @Eggs, for me he's currently not showing that he is truly adept at being that new new bread of goal keeper, nor as he for the past few months at least.

His distribution is inconsistent at best, with regular poor (shocking) kicks and throws, and the defence do not seem to be able to work with him, let alone trust him.

He's usually a great shot stopper, and he's not the worst of our worries by any stretch of the imagination; yet, he has a few glaring deficiencies that he must work on.

In the short-term, I think we need to at least be looking at brining some positive competition for him, whereas in the long-term his place may not be secured.

There's a lot worse in the league... but I do want better.

I am sick of this place. A bunch of faggot mindreading bitches playing with people and chatting [Poor language removed]. Go [Poor language removed] yourselves. You're no loss to me. Just an irritant bunch of snidermen [Poor language removed] and a bunch of 'proper' evertonian [Poor language removed] and a bunch of [Poor language removed] who couldn't have any skill in their lives like davek. good luck being the shitness of the internet. pisstaking motherfucking [Poor language removed] . love the fact that some nobends will chat [Poor language removed] but I won't be watching your posts so go [Poor language removed] yourselves. DONE with the sick [Poor language removed] you are.

@ToothPlucker can you send us a sign that you’re still with us on this planet mate ?

...I don’t think it’s a matter of redemption. Pickford is making errors frequently, many of which are costing us points. I don’t think it’s a case of balancing that out with fine saves.

I really don’t agree that he’s a good shot stopper Eggs, especially after yesterday’s aberration. I really want him to crack it, but he doesn’t look like a player who is improving, if anything he’s becoming even more error prone. I know sweet FA about goal keeping, but to me it looks as though he has concentration issues.

...I was trying to be kind.

I agree, he does seem to have gone backwards. He needs a period of stability but he’s too daft.

Yes I posted that chart earlier in this thread. See Page 168.

Surely the club are aware of this and will act accordingly.....
