Distribution being a growing issue. The run of the mill stuff is more worrying for me.
I keep hearing this, but i don't think that is true at all. A trusted goalkeeper improves the not just the defense, if he constantly adding doubt it hurts all areas of the pitchHe’s been poor but there are not many GKs that don’t make mistakes, the standard of keepers in the league is actually very bad.
We have other issues that need sorting before replacing Pickford.
Biggest worry for me, was not the goal, as that was a period in which the whole team seemed to be in a fluster and I kind of hold them all equally responsible!
But that moment (Zaha pen shout) when he came out and grabbed the ball. Watching it back, I could have sworn he actually forgot that he even had the ball, and somehow stood up without it! He seems to go into moments where he doesn't really know what's happening, and I think its probably not an ability problem, but a lack of composure under what is to be fair, immense pressure. I think he's worrying too much about making mistakes and its becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy, and/or vicious circle.
I think he needs to find someway of remaining calm and not worrying. Meditation or something... although him going into a trance is all we need!
I think we need to get behind him while we have him though, cause getting on his back, what with how temperamental and erratic under pressure he is, isn't going to help anyone, least of all us!
It's also not just a Pickford who panics problem, but the whole teams. I could feel the panic in that team, during that 15 minute spell in the second half, long before it got anywhere near Pickford. Same with the Newcastle game, again his not realizing where he was (behind the goal line doh), but it was really a collective group spaz out, and I'm not sure Pickford should take all the blame.
The results have been good recently, but I'm still seeing signs of a lot of the problems we had under Silva, so I'm not celebrating just yet. Much better, I know, but we've also had a lot more luck recently (Newcastle being an exception) and won games that could have gone either way.
I'm hoping once the team itself becomes calmer and more resilient, Pickford will as well. Though I do have doubts myself as well...

Should just shut the muck up and stop making stupid mistakes.
That will show me that he has mental strength.
Without that, the haters would have nothing to hate.
yes it was pathetic for a man of his undoubted quality. In fairness it was Benteke, so he probably thought the corner flag was in more danger
If actual truth be told, the howler on Saturday was the first actual howler leading to a goal I can recall in a long time.
Absolutely, but I can only think of 2 or 3 he has “gifted”.Catching the ball while Standing 2 foot behind the line isn't a howler?
I guess it depends on your definition of howler. But this is at best, a rudimentary misunderstanding of the basic rules of football.
Noone denies he has the ability to make the odd decent save, but it's all for nothing if you keep getting the basics wrong and it undermines the good work the team does.
Goals at the highest level are valuable, that's why teams pay massive amounts of money for the best players. But if you are just going to gift the opposition goals they haven't earned, regularly, than something has to change, whether that's him or us.
We are great as a fan base at turning on our own players, proper horrible lot....and don’t give me the “he is not above criticism”. Saying he made a mistake is fine....but as soon as players are out of form they are “not good enough”, none of you make any mistakes in life, or at work!?!
Sad really.
