2019/20 Jordan Pickford

I think he is worth persisting with. We certainly have more pressing issues to address (i.e. midfield). I feel a lot of highly regarded keepers make mistakes.. just when they do, it has more visibility due to the position. De Gea comes to mind for howlers. And Kepa this year was awful for Chelsea. We could do a lot worse.

Is that the barometer now?

It's arguably the most important part of the pitch, he's lost us so many points this season.

He really hasn’t though.

You’re really throwing saves stats at me to imply he had a good season? That table says that Pickford has had a better season than Patricio and that Alisson has been the worst keeper in the league.

Have you seen some of the goals Foster has conceded this season? He literally goes down like a sack of spuds to get to low shots, he has the agility of a combine harvester nowadays.

There was a whole host of different stats on there besides that one table for shots saved. I’d have thought the reason Alisson was at the bottom would have been fairly obvious like, but hey ho.

I mentioned him because I’ve seen him a few times last season and he’d looked more than decent to me like, and his stats back the view of my eyes, but you know better obvs.

Jordan Pickford is 5th on the “high claims” table and I can’t ever remember him catching a cross lol lol lol

I’ve just remembered something, did we not give him a really long deal after his first season like above 5 years big?

Yup. Think someone said 6 years earlier in the thread.

We're stuck with him unless someone bids for him or he agitates for a loan or move.

Personally I think the best we can do is identify either a genuinely promising young keeper or an older but reliable one, then play them. Give him the kick up the backside he needs. If he can't improve then he's benched and will end up going out on loan (similar to Hart at City). Not ideal, but we'd either get him playing well or at least some of his wages off the books.

Ben Foster on a short term deal for me. There’s no Euros this year for Pickford to undergo the realisation that he’s lost his precious England job which I think has given him a god complex so there’s no motivation from that. Someone like Foster coming in and getting played for the first 5-10 games of the season straight off the bat and also in the cup games would test Pickford’s mettle and actually see if he can back from actual adversity (not just from chucking the ball in his net like usual). Foster would also be far less risky than playing Virginia or someone and isn’t going to cost much.

If Pickford steps it up then great and if not we absolutely know he’s done for and we will have given ourselves time to get his name out there and some replacements drawn up.

Given how he has performed recently it is galling. I can see why - at the time he'd had a good World Cup and was expected to kick on. Also, the longer contract world allowed presumably have allowed us to demand a high fee if a suitor came sniffing.

Hindsight is a killer! Everton, eh?

Yeah on an individual basis you can rationalise but the list is prity big on Everton jizzing it’s jocks and giving mad contracts be cause of good half seasons. Or just giving bad players mad contracts to begin with. It’s mad how many players we have had that are happy to play in reserves and won’t budge for a chance at first team football. Not only as footballers but bad character we sign.
