I can see why you don't get it, I only understood it properly once I started coaching GK. It's a balance between getting closer to the ball to narrow the angle and being far enough away to have reaction time. So if the ball is around the edge of the penalty area the best position is midway between the goal line and the six yard box, often referred to as "The Golden Arc".
A GK can be in the perfect position and still conceded a goal, and oddly enough not be at fault.

Not wishing to be difficult, on the six yard line he saves that, on his line he failed. I admit the power of the shot cant be predicted. There were defenders covering and I am unable to see the advantage of being on the line. Keepers are supposed to narrow angles. He made it as large as possible. Was not bad tonight though.

At no point did I say he should be on the line, either 6yard or goal line. Its half way between. I had a quick look at the highlights and for 3 of the goals tonight ( except the corner) you will see the GK midway between those lines. That's the correct distance from the goal line, all three goals from edge of area or thereabouts.
On the 6 yard line is too far out.

He does true but he also gets OTT praise aswell, it's weird, the GK spot is so difficult.
For me I like Pickford, I dont like his attitude bit he gets a bit of a pass right now as both our center halves being terrible dosent help.
Wait until we have a decent back 4, by then Pickford will be a lot older and wiser.
 
Big save at 2 nil and if cenk wasn’t utter toilet, he would be a hero BUT let’s not mention that.

worldy of a kick to Kean’s toe but moss made us retake for a leicester sub which was a joke.
 
I do think we are too harsh on Pickford. When he saves the first penalty is he suppose to be sad, its adrenalin and he's pumped. He was very very close to their 4th. Don't forget he made two great saves at 2-0 as well. I do wish as supporters we would back him. The keeper can not be faulted in a shootout, we had two awful penalties yet no one mentions Baines penalty because its Baines
