That's the thing. If all he has to do is react in a flash, he's world-class. The moment he has to think about something he falls apart. Especially come out and challenge vs. stay on his line. Massive screwup for England during the week and another one today and it's all because he feels the need to venture out and be Danger Man.
His luck in escaping without consequence was undeserved.
"His mentality is good. He is a good guy, a funny guy. I don't want to change his mentality or character. Sometimes he makes mistakes because he thinks too much. He needs to use his instincts more that is really good. When he reacts, he is top. When he reacts, he makes mistakes sometimes but he is still a young keeper.
"On the pitch he has to be focused on what he is doing, know his limits and where is his quality."
It's last chance saloon for Pickford tomorrow it seems. Carlo dropping him to show that Olsen is more than capable of stepping in as number 1 if he continues to make mistakes.
Hopefully it'll get a reaction out of him.
What leads you to believe that? Those comments tell me he could throw the ball in his net 5 times and he’d still be playing the next game.

He clearly wasn't 'dropped' though was he? He was effectively 'rested' by the look of it. He was told it would just be for one game no matter what happened, and that is how it's panned out. I'd have to agree that it does seem to have sent the opposite message to the one you're talking about.Of course he's not undroppabale
He literally was just dropped
If he plays badly again he'll be dropped again. Whether he deserves to be recalled is obviously highly questionable, but he's definitely running out of chances.

I don't think he has.... I think he's been shown that we have a keeper who is capable. He’s basically just been told he’s undroppable. Not a chance he’s improving any time soon.
Sky Sport’s hate for Jordan Pickford is next level. They’re an actual disgrace.
They’ve been bullying in and organising a pile on for weeks now. They’ll then have the gall to talk about mental health.
That's why I put 'rest' in inverted commas. I don't mean he was rested in the sense that he needed a rest, I mean it in the way that it is often used in football terms, that he was left out for a game but not actually dropped as such. I'm not sure that saying 'i'm going to give this bloke a game but don't worry you'll be back in next week whatever happens' is really sending a message if i'm honest, as I said, if anything the message it gives is more that they're really not sold on Olsen at all and therefore his position is fairly safe.Looked to me like a case of Carlo dropping Pickford to show him that Olsen is there and ready to step him should he have any more cockups. It was 100% done to get a reaction out of Pickford - you don't 'rest' a goalkeeper.
