2020/21 Jordan Pickford

I do agree, but his age goes against him slightly against him.

I`m talking about someone like the lad at Inter Milan, Donnarumma.

Young, world class and someone who is only going to get better.
Doubt we could attract that type of keeper and tbh there’s probably only about 5 genuinely world class keepers about now. Would be nice to get one but as others have said just a steady and competent keeper is a huge improvement on baby hart and they needn’t cost the world.

We definitely don’t have to break the bank to buy an upgrade on Pickford. We already have one at the club who’d cost £5m absolute tops.
I was wondering where to start with it all. Firstly, I’d say he’s made more mistakes this season than in any other season he’s been here, which puts the bed the idea he’s been more dependable.

Secondly, I don’t think the idea that he “nearly tipped it onto the post” does him any favours, as it shows he got down to the shot in plenty of time and got enough of a hand on it to keep it out. This also disproves the idea that he saw it late.

Finally the assertion that he isn’t liked in the fanbase is true, and it’s because he’s a terrible goalkeeper, not because his name has been randomly drawn out of a hat to be the subject of our ire.

tl;dr version: yes, I disagree with all of it.

I said he should have saved it, did you disagree with that?

Olsen has played a handful of games one of which he had a poor performance. So percentage terms not looking great but you want him as our number 1.

Im all for having upgraded players and maybe Pickford doesnt have the concentration levels needed but I personally dont think Olsen is better in the long term.
Theres a reason why Roma have loaned him out to Cagliari and us and not kept him.

Can't Olsen be the short term upgrade till the Summer when we sell Pickford and buy a new starting keeper?

Pope is England’s best keeper.

He made 8/9 saves yesterday, kept his side in the game and look what happened, they nicked a win when getting battered for most of the game.
Yup, and he did exactly the same at the pit the other week! He never once looked like conceding over there, think how much confidence he gives to Mee, Tarkowski and co! Meanwhile Holgate, Keane, Mina, Godfrey - every single one of them threw their hands up in despair last night!

Did he? When?

There are so many second rate keepers in the PL why should anyone buy Pickford? OK maybe a championship club would have him but that reduces the fee to near zero as they are all broke these days.

Yeah, I realise that, but only after Keppa flopped.

The difference between us an Chelsea is that they can afford to do that, we can’t. Or at least not this season we can’t.

A big problem for us, is that 6 yr contract he signed that doesn’t expire until 2024.

So Chelsea bought a keeper for £16m to replace the one they bought for £72m, meaning you don’t have to spend more on a replacement than you did on the keeper you’re replacing. Pickford cost £30m, but we could replace him with a better keeper for under £10m.
