I've never rated Brazilian goalkeepers. As for all this guff about this fella being the best in the world, there's a fella in Munich who's been the best for the best part of a decade.

Fine keeper, Oblak, but his achievements simply don't stack up against Neuer's. There's definitely a case that Oblak is the best goalkeeper in the world right now - but over the last decade he doesn't compare to the guy who's won the World Cup, two Champions Leagues, a stack of domestic titles and effectively re-invented the position. Yes, we had sweeper keepers back to the days of Stanley Menzo, but nobody integrated it so successfully into a top-level side at both club and international level and happened to be a superb shot stopper into the bargain. Oblak, by comparison, is basically a goal-line keeper - though bloody good at that underrated aspect of the role. I like him a lot. He's old school.

How silly of Oblak not to win a World Cup with Slovenia when Neuer was out here carrying the minnows Germany to a title.

Oblak is at the moment the best keeper in the world for me just as De Gea was before him at some point. Neither has won much because ultimately keepers can only do so much for a team.
