2020/21 Jordan Pickford

60m for any keeper is insane money and most clubs would take it.

If offered that amount then definitely entertain the offer, however I can't think off the top of my head of any clubs:
1 - That can offer that amount
2 - That require a keeper fot that amount.
United - on both counts.

You can end up believing a lot of very wrong things on those grounds.

The most obvious one I can think of, off the top of my head, is that the Buddha will always be a wealthy Tory douchebag as opposed to the founder of a major world religion.

I could go on, but I think the existence proof is sufficient to suggest that we have to judge Pickford on the basis of evidence in the context of others' actions, rather than simply relying on the heuristic that past behavior absolutely predicts future behavior.
Yiu cant defend his time here overall and so resort to sophistry.

I understand.

Sell him, and get who exactly? He’s a top keeper and it will cost to replace him
Ild simply promote Olsen, get an experienced competition for him in (Ryan who just left fir Atletico would have been ideal) and spend any cash on outfield players.

Really played well in the tournament, his penalty saves were excellent.
For the Italian goal, he was the only England player moving in the box, the defenders let the Italians wander onto the rebound.
The only other goal England conceded should of been disallowed.
Well played Jordan, thanks for representing Everton so well.

He was on loan and said he is going back. The robbery put his family off living here so we wont see him again in a Everton shirt. He also isn’t as good as Pickford so not that simple
Money talks.

The point is: options would be there, because - guess what - there's loads of GKs in this world and they can easily match what Pickford has done here and probably do much better.

I have to laugh at the notion we cant do better than this divvy who most Evertonians have been tearing their hair out over for years.

I dont give a flying one what his form for England is. With Everton he is hopeless.

If an offer comes in: GET SHUT.

That's just sensible.

What a wonderful display this young man put on during the European Championship. As a former amateur goalkeeper, I have always rated Jordan Pickford and was delighted when we signed him. Technically, he improvises and innovates and brings his own attitude to the position. Mentally, he has been hugely inconsistent and has had to mature during his time with us. That maturity has emerged in the last six months.

I feel very sorry for him that he has been almost an afterthought in the wake of what was a magnificent performance in the penalty shoot-out and in the tournament as a whole. When you make two saves in the shootout, you really have done all that is required of you and more for your team-mates. Moreover, to actually stop the match-winning kick, give your people a reprieve, and, literally save your entire nation from defeat is heroic by definition. The match-winning saves against Germany also stick out - and he deserves huge credit for his part in Thomas Müller's uncharacteristic miss. The goalkeeper's job is to prevent goals, and Pickford did his tremendously well all tournament. In a very plausible alternative universe that so very nearly was, Jordan Pickford is an immortal national hero.

The key now is to reproduce this consistency for his club. With a manager who knows how to set up a defence, Pickford could be in the right place now to further mature into one of the world's great goalkeepers. He is an asset to the club - now our coaches need to bring the best out of him as consistently as they did in 2021. While I find it sad that his heroics have been forgotten, in one way that is the ultimate victory for Pickford: he was NOT the scapegoat, the punchline, or the target for the idiocracy that blights the modern game. He did his job. Supremely well.

yeah sensible, getting rid of our best players!

Spot on Dave!

Yep 110%.

Best time to cash in, decent tournament because he was well protected by a dour defensive setup with 7 defenders.

Never be a better time to sell because deep down we all know he'll return back to the Pickford we know.

Yes. 5 years worth of facts for you to ponder.

It's incredible. Have you forgotten the pile of howlers he's had here just because he had a decent Euros?
Well, the first fact you've got wrong is that he's been here 4 years, not 5.

A second fact is that in 2 of those 4 years he got player of the season on here, a fact you conveniently seem to have forgotten.

In my opinion, his form started to dip following the howler at Anfield with the Origi goal, and became gradually worse over the next 24 months. Over that period the number and frequency of mistakes increased at the same time the good parts of his game were being eroded, culminating in his form during the early part of last season when he had become a liability to the team. But your making out that he's been playing to those very poor standards throughout his "5" year term here, which is not, in fact, a fact, but merely pure drivel.

Here's a couple of my post from the feeding frenzy period last Autumn.
Said it yesterday during the feeding frenzy. A lot of the issues are in his head. Maybe a hew keeping coach is required but I'd definitely bring in a sports psychologist anyway

He isn't doing a very good job with Pickford at the moment. Maybe bring somebody else in as a one off. There must be one who specialises in keepers somewhere

I don't know Eggs. I've used the word hate in here quite a lot myself, not just to describe people's reactions to Pickford but also the likes of Davies, Siggy, and even DCL in the not too distant past.

Maybe hate is too much a word, but I can't think of another to describe it better. People are consistently looking for reasons to have a pop, even often when they don't exist. Sadly with Jordan at the moment, he's giving people plenty of ammunition.

But take the Internationals this week. He did OK against Belgium. There were only two comments on his performance in here, and one of them was me saying I thought he did OK. In the match last night, he made 1 error of judgment when he went for a ball he shouldn't have, and there were 7 PAGES of comment. It wasn't even what I would call a howler, it was just a lack of judgment that all keepers do from time to time. The fact that it led to a goal was more to do with bad refereeing than bad keeping. The response on here, given that it wasn't even an Everton game, was ridiculously OTT. Loads of people on here refuse to give the lad any credit when it comes to England form, but are the first to jump on his head when he makes a mistake for them. What word would you use to describe it Eggs?.

Having said that, there's no denying that he is in a terrible run of form. The frequency of his mistakes and errors of judgment for the club are far too often and many of them are leading to goals. His distribution, one of the things we bought him for, has also been poor and he now seems terrified of catching the ball too. He has not become a bad keeper as so many are saying and he is far from being the worst in the League. But he does need taking out of the limelight and working on to get his head straight if he has a future with us. The Jordan Pickford of the first 2 seasons is an asset to this club. If we can get that back he is worth persevering with.

However I would now bring in Olsen for the derby who would hopefully bring a safer pair of hands. Pickford at the moment is a liability and we are not seeing any upside of his game to offset his mistakes.
There were a small number of posters on here regularly defending Jordan during this period, and I regret that I wasn't one of them. But at the same time I didn't join in the frenzy because I genuinely believed a good keeper was still in there, it was just his head that was wrong and needed sorting out. I'm glad to say that, for a change, I was proved right. the club brought in a specialist and Jordan returned after his short "injury break" a completely different player. I think the Anfield derby, in which he was excellent, also killed off a few demons.

So the third fact I'll present to you Dave is that for the majority of this calendar year he's been one of the best keepers in the Premier and he's carried that form into the Euro's where he compared favourably with some of the best keepers in the world.

The key to Jordan going forward is keeping his head straight, and if we can do that there's no reason why he can't be our number 1 keeper for years to come.

We'd then need 2 keepers this pre season, can safely say Pickford is going nowhere and deserves a chance to show that he is maturing and not as erratic as he once was.
