An 'escape clause' makes it sound like he has to find a bunch of clues and get out of FF in less than 60 minutes or he doesn't get a certificate lol

As for £35m (pretty much what we paid for him) being a 'staggering' amount of money for England's number one, vastly experienced goalkeeper in his peak years, well... it's hardly deal of the century stuff. You'd have thought he'd be one of few players we have we could probably sell for more than that.

Best player in an international final?

He’s the only player we have that is elite and could in any way be argued as world class given his England exploits.

He might not be the absolute best in the world, or even top 10, but I’d wager he’s probably in the top 25 or so if you look at his last couple of years with us and whole England career.

Does that not count as elite?

People seem to think that every other keeper on earth is prime Yashin/Southall these days.

The game has changed, there was not the 24/7 microscope on goalies in the past that there is now where every mistake gets reviewed from multiple angles.

I wonder if anyone would pay 35m for him. If he goes and we get back more than we paid for him, id say it would be a good deal.

Even for a club as bad as us at negotiating player exits, you'd still think £40-45-50m wouldn't be an unrealistic figure all things considered. There would definitely be takers for JP. For me, £35m seems a bit undervalued but probably a requirement of getting the contract signed, if there really is a clause of course.

I wouldve thought the clause would be higher myself, he has improved more than 10m worth since signing. I would think maybe someone like Spurs might go for him, but i dont really see any other ‘big’ sides doing so.

Is it a release clause or a relegation release clause - they devil is in the detail there.

If we agreed to a 35 mill general release clause - its stupid.
