2022/23 Jordan Pickford

Allison dropped from the Brazil squad and Pickford untouchable as England’s number 1 as Pope and Ramsdale make error after error.

Big oil will be sending bullets in the post to that interim Brazil manager.
Allison definitely dropped because he actually sucks and not because Brazil called up 10 uncapped players for a single friendly. It's definitely that he sucks.

And every day Pickford is still the England keeper is a day we should be negotiating his sale.

In the last few weeks alone, Pope has been sent off for handling a ball outside his area after going for an Ndombele type header on the floor against Salah of all people. He also was extremely lucky to escape a red for Wolves for just clattering an attacker in the area. Ramsdale meanwhile got beaten by a shot from the halfway line to send his team out of Europe.

Can you imagine the reaction on here if Pickford did that? There’s people complaining about successful saves he made. Southgate sees one keeper performing well regularly who raises his game for the big occasions, and he sees two other keepers all over the show recently who wilt in big moments. Absolute no brainer. It will be a 4th successive tournament for Pickford as England number 1 putting him up there with Banks and Shilton. Tragic for his haters.
Pope surely took himself out of the equation, two moments of madness, only one of which somehow got punished - the handball against Liverpool not only cost them any shot at that game but the ban damaged their chances of their first trophy in a million years, meanwhile the one against Wolves that went unpunished should've been a red and a pen, effectively costing them 3 points with CL qualification on the line. Those are enormous errors, exactly what you don't want from a keeper at international level when 2 years of work and preparation can be undone by such stupidity.

I didn't really think Ramsdale was massively to blame for the long range goal but he was absolutely pathetic in the shoot out with several saveable pens going past him, and obviously that's a massive factor when you're thinking about international tournaments.

If he is as bad as you think he is, name the clubs who should be looking to buy him? And how much should they pay for him?

Well said ;)

Not saying he's bad. I'm saying he's worth more sold than kept.

I don't rate him that highly but that's not really the point I'm making. It's about properly using what assets you have.

Actually somewhat agree with the Iguana here.

The top sides will value Pickfords ability, experience and standing. He's 29 so they would perhaps have him during his peak years. Thats what they need.

We should be developing young players as weve done with Pickford. Getting them to the top of their game, selling and reinvesting.

Meslier is rated at £30mil+ so for Pickford I'd say £50mil+ isnt unreasonable at all. Spurs paid that for Richarlison and Chelsea need a top keeper.

The 22 year old Georgian keeper, Mamardashvili (Valencia) and the 21 year old Ireland keeper Bazunu (Southampton) both play for sides close to the drop...as Pickford has been doing and who of course was once relegated.

But they each could become top class players and seemingly may be available for reasonable fees...my guess would be £20mil.

So if we sold at £50mil+ and replaced with either of those two...the £30mil we would clear could then be used on an outfield player.

Weakening us in one area short term strenthening another area. Over time we may have strengthened two areas.

I'm really bored of the lazy commentary that is recycled again and again about Pickford.
This from an absolute rag but still...

"Many advocate for players to be picked for England on club form only, and clearly there is a good argument to be had there.
But while Pickford's performances in an Everton jersey continue to be hot and cold, stick him in a Three Lions shirt and he isn't letting anyone down.
While he continues to be such a reliable goalkeeper for Gareth Southgate, his place at No 1 should not be in question. He looks comfortable, displays a clear air of authority - and is a damn good goalkeeper too, maybe England's best of the 21st century so far. "

Very contradictory.

At this stage in his career he might 'need' Europa or CL games to prove himself as one of the best, and at this stage in our history, we might have to sell him and then buy someone similar for £15-20m - agree with the above. But on the other hand, the press reviews mean that a top 6 side won't buy him, as the Sky Pundit Union has denounced him.

I think both Chelsea and Spurs make moves for him this summer. Chelsea could do with an experienced keeper behind the young players theyve signed.

Spurs need someone to gain them those few additional points to cement top 4.

If he moved to either team then the press would instantly be calling him Englands best ever keeper and the worlds number 1 and calling for a knighthood.

This summer I'd be surprised if we didnt receive any £50-60mil bids for him

Very happy to keep him but I'd be impressed if Dyche/Thelwell rolled the dice and then invested in Bazunu/Mamardashvili leaving enough in the bank for a young attacking outfield player.

Should be about 5-0 already if not for Pickford. He must be mad to sign a new contract with us. Imagine choosing to trust Michael Keane in front of you for years to come.
