Because we lost so many games...irrelevant...had crucial saves in games we either drew or won...towards the end of the season, the maddison penalty save was crucial and yes it was a bad penalty, but a lot of keepers would have gamble on one side or the other whereas he stayed on his feet. He is at his peaked now for sure, and will be there for the next 3 or 4 seasons before maybe starting to decline...massive gamble if we decide to sell and huge pressure on thelwell to get it right with the replacement.
Sadly we don't have the money to keep him and improve the squad in the positions that are critical in making sure we aren't in a other last day escape act. You look at top half clubs and in plenty of their games the keeper isn't called on to make a save. That's what we need to aim for.

Think we are maybe bigging him up too much. A lot of the saves he was called on to make were because we spent so much time in our own half because we had no attack to speak of. Get the badly needed front men and hopefully the keeper won't be called upon so often. Saw a post quoting that the pen save v Leicester City and the late save v Bournemouth kept us up. In reality it was a very poor penalty and 9 out of 10 competent keepers save the Bournemouth effort.
Find a lot of that a little strange take myself, he is bigger up because he is very good, no matter how much certain Everton fans dont like him, to go with all he press that hate him because he is not pope and co - If only football was as easy as you say in the sense that we would be in the attacking 3rd so much that our keeper wouldnt be needed - Yes the pen was bad but if he dive's he doesnt save it, and yes a lot should save that Bourenmouth shot but many would not save shots that he pulled wonder saves from

Some people........

Pickford made a save down left in the closing moments of the big game which kept us in the league.

The fact that the likes of Spurs and Manchester United are keen should say it all.
can’t believe people after the last few seasons want to roll the dice again on selling one of our top players.

THE BOARD WILL KEEP THE MONEY YOU UTTER IDIOTS

My comments were more about our aspirations, decent keepers in the bottom six will make lots of great saves simply because they face far more shots than those in the top half. I like Pickford but given our financial situation if we can get good money for him and build a team that doesn't spend large percentages of games under the cosh it'll be a step in the right direction. If Pickford is next year's player of the season I fear we might have the best stadium the Championship has seen.

Tell that to Leicester they could score goals but had two terrible keepers who couldn’t keep clean sheets. Defence was bad as well to be fair but if they had a solid keeper I think they would have stayed up.
So what you're saying is we need to sign a keeper that's not quite at Pickford's level rather than 2 terrible keepers?

I'm not sure anyone is going to suggest putting Bill Kenwright between the sticks so that we can sign Mbappe up front.

It seems to be that elite keepers play in the top6 and often disappoint as their shots to goals ratio is not that impressive. Keepers who put in good performances week in and out usually play in the bottom 6 and have few goals per shot. Pickford seems somewhere in between. He is a great stopper and good distributor but doesn't command his area well. I think if he went to a Champions League team it would only highlight his flaws and within a year he'd be out of the England job.

Scoring the penalty against us would have gone a long way to them staying up.

Yeah but there lies the problem finding a keeper that’s not quite his level but still good enough for the premier league. Am sure Leicester thought the two they had would be good enough and they just wasn’t. I just wouldn’t sell him a top level goalkeeper is vital at every level. you win nothing with out a quality goalie and in our position they make the difference in keeping you up.

Tell that to Leicester fans who could draw a straight line from letting Schmeichel go to relegation
Pickford is probably our MVP in terms of points not £££ atm

Guaranteed relegation without him, must keep hold of him as we will replace him with someone nowhere near as good and his fee will end up spent on some steel girders for our swanky stadium.
First and foremost we need a decent team for this stadium to have PL football

If Dyche needs a sale to generate the money to buy the outfield players we badly need then the board wil sanction Pickford's sale,it's the reality of our situation sadly. As for Leicester City and their relegation they could draw a line from a soft penalty miss against us or their midfield going missing for the last half a dozen games. When teams go down it's never about only one player.

which pickford saved by being aware of Maddison's record, though it was made easier. Many keepers would've just dived
Leic conceded 9 more goals this past season and 11 more than us
Despite scoring a lot they still went down which is rare
If we need to sell, it should be elsewhere is all I'm saying, Pickford is worth more points

You'd get no argument from me to keep our best players but our financial situation means that we are likely to have to cash in our most saleable assets and as it stands Pickford could well be it.
