2022/23 Jordan Pickford

It seems to be that elite keepers play in the top6 and often disappoint as their shots to goals ratio is not that impressive. Keepers who put in good performances week in and out usually play in the bottom 6 and have few goals per shot. Pickford seems somewhere in between. He is a great stopper and good distributor but doesn't command his area well. I think if he went to a Champions League team it would only highlight his flaws and within a year he'd be out of the England job.
Or it goes the other way and only has a couple of things to do in the game with a much better defence in front of him plays with more confidence and looks like a world class keeper while we get someone who starts making silly costly mistakes but comes out and claims everything in the box and is Costa Rica’s number 1.

This is why we would be insane to sell him. We will end up going the same way as Leicester if we do

Absolutely brilliant. I know he’s not Southall and he is capable of the odd clanger…..but all keepers are. If that was a compilation of Southall, we would all be oohing and aahing. He’s a bloody good keeper Pickford and as others have said there should be no way we sell him. It’s rare for a guy at the top of their game wanting to stay with us as well.

The standard of this video is every save is important. Which is fair I supposed but then whoever had more saves takes the cake.
But it’s also the standard of save and the level of expectation that the keeper will make the save….I think that’s what makes this so good

If he leaves the club that buys him will get the mature Pickford that we have seen for the last 2 years
he is a much better keeper now
before that his head was all over the place like his performances
I think he finally got his head round things after that horse puncher game at Goodison

Absolutely, he is still prone to rushes of blood, but he has definitely calmed down and matured. He used to remind me of Joe Hart in the way he was so pumped, but I think he started to see a sports psychologist which seemed to help him

He would probably look worse in a better club. As posted above, your concentration levels dip when you aren’t frequently involved. Chances are Pickford would be no different. Hart was also unbelievable for Birmingham and his form dropped tremendously during his stint at City. Jordan had his worst years by far when we were higher up the table. I think he has improved- people are jumping the gun though.

Think we are maybe bigging him up too much. A lot of the saves he was called on to make were because we spent so much time in our own half because we had no attack to speak of. Get the badly needed front men and hopefully the keeper won't be called upon so often. Saw a post quoting that the pen save v Leicester City and the late save v Bournemouth kept us up. In reality it was a very poor penalty and 9 out of 10 competent keepers save the Bournemouth effort.
Yebutyebutyebut, no. Saves because we dropped him in it are still saves. Obviously, if we were like Inter Milan, City, and Everton at their historic peaks, you and I could have got away with the odd game between the sticks, but Pickford is deffo exceptional.

Agreed - saves are saves. It’s not the keepers fault they face the number of shots they do. It’s like defenders….baffling when people start to spout Stats on defenders when in the top clubs, the majority of the time, their team is in possession and the ball in the oppositions half!

Gotta hold on to him. Bound to make a mistake here and there, they all do. But he has single handily kept us up the last two seasons. We would be in trouble letting him go.
