2022/23 Jordan Pickford

Yeah, I get that, and I could accept it if Maupay was a decent player. But he's not. He's rubbish.

The problem, as usual, is the evaluation of the player. He's not worth the fee we paid and he's not worth the wages we're paying him. Yet multiple people at the club thought he was our best option. It's plain bad recruitment.
Maupay is a decent player. He was decent in the Brighton team. They needed better and moved on. If we were a decent team he'd have some use for us but we're terrible and he's never going to lift our level.

Anyway another thread for that, let's sell Pickford while he's still worth something

Well, frankly, because we suck. I guess the question is simply in which variant will we suck less in; the one with Pickford and little else or the one without Pickford and being able to add to other places.

Again, this is all predicated on the board and Thelwell not screwing literally everything up which is a mssive massive ask apparently.

I'm also not advocating for him to go. If he wants to, let him go. Should have done the same with Gordon. When someone wants to leave, you let them leave provided a good offer comes in.
All hypothetical I know, but if we got 35/40 for him in January and used that to buy a good number 9, say Abraham from Roma, do you or anyone else think we’d have a better chance of staying up, with a good striker, but no Pickford.

I think a good striker in the team and we don’t lose v wolves.

Get him sold. He’s crap anyway. I’ve posted many times on toffeeweb and here over the years and my theory on Pickford still stands. He will save a shot a game where everyone goes ‘wow, what a save’ then he lets a soft one in and everyone thinks ‘ahhh, but he did save that boss shot’.

He is very inconsistent and if we could get 50m for him I would take it in a second.

Oh dear ... another one
Another one what? If you’re against my argument back it up with facts.

Here we go;

Got beat at his near post for Ronaldo goal.
Got beat against Wolves by not being able to move his left leg out.
Sold the goal last season against Palace where he rushed out and missed the ball.
Origi goal in the derby.

These are off the top of my head.

Just concentrate on the negatives, which from what I can see , really isn't too much considering the games for us on England.

People are too quick to forget the positives , just like yourself.

You might be part of the toxic side, which we don't need, especially right now.

You are right for an opinion, but not a daft one like that. Defo smell dodgy you

On top of the goals that result from his mistakes, there are the games where he gets away with major errors not resulting in goals.
The Chelsea game this season he made 3 bad clangers in.
Late on he came way out of his area, got the ball with time to play it forward, tried to be clever and lost the ball to Pulisic who could n`t take advantage of it.
In the first half a shot straight at him, he parries it straight out to Sterling who taps it home, fortunately just offside.
After Godfrey made a crap backpass that was going out for a corner, England No 1 puts every effort into saving us from facing a corner, fortunately the ball goes out because the clown gives the ball to a Chelsea player in the area.

The only thing about selling him would be the though of not having a good enough keeper to come into the team. Not sure if Begoivc is not passed it, and I don`t trust our lot to bring in a keeper to do the job.

There are more negatives than positives. There always has been. I posted this on Toffeeweb about Pickford;

I have a real problem with Pickford and I've said it for a long long time. As much as I think he's a good shot-stopper and in every match we applaud him for generally a good save which would've resulted in a goal, it generally overshadows shots he should save or decisions which he should make, and make them better.
Too often, he does the hard things right and the easy things wrong. I think he was at fault for the goals against Newcastle, Man City away, Liverpool away, and obviously more this season but they are the ones I remember. I hate this attitude, I hate his awful fumbling and handling of the ball...

I posted this in 2019!!!!

The guy simply makes too many mistakes and hasn’t erased this from his game.

The best thing he ever did here was to protect himself from Van Dijk's leg breaking challenge and instead break Van Dijk in two.

Sell him and get two forwards in. Dont let this drag on to the summer when he'll go on the cheap and we're in the Championship.

Who will your agenda target if both Pickford and Richarlison have left? There won’t be anyone left for you to call crap without everyone agreeing with you.

I’ve got to say, this type of post is just really odd. I mean he’s our best player.

Now, he may not be the best keeper in the league, fair enough. But he’s in the next bracket for sure. I would strongly argue that he’s a much better keeper than a club in our position deserves to have.

Surely there’s some middle ground between not the best in the league and crap?

if we sell him? I do think id be really really worried about relegation. And I wasn’t last year.

Absolute twaddle of the highest order.
