IMO, the two best keepers in the Prem are Pickford and Martinez of Villa. Interesting that BOTH are disliked by most pundits and journos. When they make great saves and/or penalty saves, even then they usually only get begrudging praise. I think it is because they are both seen as "loons" and neither play for the "big" clubs. Their faces don't fit. Thoughts?
I think Martinez gets loads of credit from commentators and pundits.
They seem to class Pickford as some erratic joke figure, as if someone better is about to come along and take his throne.
He's seen off about 6 England keepers who have tried to take his place + no other keeper has come in and ever looked like challenging him at Everton.
I think he's still got a couple of years left on his deal and is on a decent wage so personally I'd wait until the summer. We're going to have to be very careful when it comes to how much we are offering players.
Clubs who finish 13th-17th don't pay players 100k+ a week (though that is what weve been guilty of). He's never agitated for a move away so I think it's sensible to sit down in the summer and see what thr plans are then.
