Get them right and the positive effect on the squad will be immeasurable

Once you have the spine, the rest will sort itself out

Actually after writing that, I did have a think, as you say, I would gladly pay 50m for Buffon, even now.

I wouldn't go over £18m and Sunderland know they won't be getting anywhere near £30m. He's their only sellable asset, the only player who actually made them competitive in some games has left on a free
