What are you basing this on? I havent seen him make a save any top 6 keeper couldnt. I havent seen all his games, but Ive seen all for Everton and he has not been anything special. He makes a few stellar saves, yes, but then he lets in two soft ones. Not a fantastic keeper in my eyes, but he’s doing okey.

Tbh, Id rather have a fresh faced Timmy Howard than Pickford.

I think that sums it up quite well for me. I like him, and think he's been generally decent for us. I just don't understand why some people think he's been excellent and a stand out for us, because I really don't think he has.

He's better than Joel, and better than latter day Howard, but i'd have to agree with the poster who said he hasn't necessarily been clearly better than Howard was at his best, and he certainly hasn't been as good as Martyn - who I think it's important to remember was never absolutely top class himself, and was a little past his very best when he came to us. For that reason I find the suggestions that he's top class, or on his way to being top class, slightly odd. He may well prove me wrong, but at the moment i'm just seeing a keeper at the level you'd expect of a team in the top 10 of the PL.

Give him a chance, he is very young.

Martyn was top class mate, absolutely brilliant keeper for years.
Yeah it’s an Ill defined term I suppose. Martyn was clearly one of the best keepers in the league for a number of years, I was talking ‘top class’ in the sense that people compare Pickford to de gea, who most people would put in a higher bracket than Martyn, same as they would with his peers like southall and schmeichel.

Wont get a game in the games.
Pecking order will be:
Butland
Heart
Pickford

Mad considering Butland has conceded the most goals in the league and literally dropped a cross in his own net the other week, and Hart has just come back after 4 months of being dropped for Adrian who they've been trying to replace since Allardyce was there.

Spot on this mate

For me Pickford has the potenmtial to be an absolutely top keeper, but as of right now he's just a very good young keeper whose still learning.

Not helped by having a merry go round in front of him defensively ofc.

Get a settled pair of cb's - with an solid 3rd choice who rotates in rather than a lottery of who plays there, get a settled pair of fullbacks, and as importantly get whoever is playing there ones who fit the system.

Until then we won't have a clue just how good Pickford can be, would snap your hand off right now if you said he would peak at Martyn levels mind.

Needs to stop parrying balls upwards and back into the middle of the goal. It’s almost like he’s been coached to do it because loads of times he’s there with the dive in loads of time and looks as though he’s consciously trying g to save it that way. Maybe coaches now are paranoid about balls going behind for corners even though that seems far better than back into the goal. Remember when keepers just caught everything?

Wonder who we'll get as his backup in the summer. Would love Heaton if Burnley want to sick with pope, but they'd ask for way too much money imo.

Some very high expectations placed on certain players on here. The way some go on you'd think the very best goalkeepers never make a mistake. The reality is that they all make numerous mistakes throughout the season, and only a keeper like de Gea will make the least for 2 reasons - 1 he is World Class, and 2 he has a far far better defence ahead of him than Pickford does. de Gea was not the keeper he is now when he first arrived in England either. He was weak on crosses but like Pickford, was a very good shot stopper.

I'm not saying Pickford has the potential to be World Class, but he has shown already that he is capable of being one of the very best in this league. He has saved us in numerous games this season to earn us points and with our shambolic defence in front of him has kept the hammerings from extremely embarrassing to just embarrassing. Arsenal had 30 shots, with 14 on target in the 5-2 at Goodison. One of the worst defensive displays from an Everton side in decades.

As a comparison, in the 6 - 1 demolition that Arsenal inflicted on us in 2009, Arsenal had half the number of shots (15) than in the 5-2 this season. 9 on target compared to 14.

It's no surprise to me that certain weaknesses in Pickford's game as a young goalkeeper get exposed at times with Keane and Williams ahead of him.
