Kid??? He's 24
24 for a keeper is very young. Rarely do they peak before 30

for what? keeping us in lots of games this season? he's not the most commanding granted but he's saved us more points than he's lost usNo excuse

Nah, 30 years ago maybe, not now.24 for a keeper is very young. Rarely do they peak before 30
i've noticed! Goalie is certainly last on my list of positions that needs investment!Overly harsh criticism of all our players(but particularly younger players) seems to be fashionable on here atm for some weird reason....
That's questionablefor what? keeping us in lots of games this season? he's not the most commanding granted but he's saved us more points than he's lost us

Look at the keepers around the PL, I bet only a handful are in their 30s these days. De Gea is 27, Courtois is 25, Karius 24, Butland 25, Pope 25, Matt Ryan 25, Ederson 24. As I said, he's not old but the idea that he's a baby is ridiculous. He's a similar age to most other PL keepers and has around 200 senior games under his belt.
nonsense, he's already the third most expensive goalkeeper in history. Its perfectly acceptable to be expecting such a player to be much more completeI don't think it's his age that should be in focus but his top flight experience.
Yes he'splayed 200 games but not even half of those have been in the PL.
The difference is clear- the quality he has to face in the lower leagues is markedly lower (both in terms of, say, quality of cross and quality of movement from the attackers).
He's learning on the job, no doubt. He made a very poor decision on Saturday but if he wasn't still capable of those errors he would have cost more than the £30m we paid.
Same for Ederson- he has made some errors this season like against Liverpool.
Rough with the smooth and all that. If he's making these same mistakes at the back end of next season with such regularity (the Burnley goal and the Stoke one are both indicative of him failing to be proactive) then there may be a most ingrained issue.
Yeah and I should be clear that i'm in no way saying he's poor. I just find the idea that he's well on his way to being a keeper right out of the top drawer to be a bit bizarre. I don't know if it's his baby face or people just not realising that times have changed and the best keepers are no longer 33-37 but people seem to be under the impression he's really young and therefore bound to improve massively when in reality he's likely entering his peak years now.I don't think it's his age that should be in focus but his top flight experience.
