Cos Theo Walcott was 1 of our highest-paid players, is 31 and hasn't done a thing in 3 years.

If we are paying out half of Theo's wages though it doesn't make sense to get in a back up striker on 60-70k as we could have just kept him in case we needed cover. Without paying transfer/agency fees etc.

So your assuming he doesn't contribute then?

What if it's the other way?
Let me pose a question to you.

Say we do buy him, offer him a decent pay rise and it will be a 3 year deal in all likely hood. He comes in to cover positions that we haven't got cover for.

In 2 years time, will he be a good back up player still for the champions League? For a title challenge?

Allan/doucoure/James are players who seem to be taking us that next level. Godfrey and the left back could be brilliant players by then , based on current form.

To sign a player for 3 years we have go assume we have him part of the squad for 3 years. Is he good enough 2 years from now on a team that plans to be amongst the best in the league?

He's not really good enough at goal scoring to be a center forward or creating to be a winger in the system we are playing right now. I guess he backs up Richarlison sort of. I don't know about the fit.

But it's still a case of IF required. DCL will be expected to play once a week. It's not like we have Europe to contend with and tbh we have to see if Dom can cut it all season long to answer should we look for a world class forward next year. (Let's hope not)
Even if you leave all of the pre-Carlo games in from last year you'll struggle to find a better striker we could sign than Dom. Take out Silva and you're going to struggle to find a better one full stop.
