I think you're right. Every Utd game I watch, if he's on the pitch at the start more often than not he was subbed off so that says either Van Gaal didn't rate him or he wasn't influencing the game as he ought.

You're not a WUM at all, you just have a different opinion mate so try not to let people's frustrations stop you voicing your opinion. I think people are frustrated we haven't signed anyone.

However I do have to take issue with a couple of points you make. Chelsea sold him as he didn't suit their managers style, he was widely regarded as their best players. You can see how highly he was thought of by the fact he still gets standing ovations on his return. They sold him for United's record fee lest we forget.

United are selling him for similar reasons. He isn't a Mourinho player. While that should be held against him it doesn't automatically mean he is not a good player. Nor does it mean he wouldn’t be an improvement for us.

It’s clear that if you want a player like Mata he is not going to do a lot of running. He has to be given a free role. That being said his “numbers” remain very good. If you look at goals scored, assists per game his record stands up.

I don’t think Mata is a “name” at all, I think that’s part of his problem. He isn’t a big name like Ibrahimovic, Martial or Di Maria and I don’t think he’s ever had a fair crack of the whip at United. He isn’t eye catching but he is quite effective.

I think given some of the fees people are after he would make sense and be a prudent signing. He could end up being significantly cheaper than lads like Sissokho. He has his drawbacks but I sense he’ll be a bit Beardsley like for us, a lot of the things said about Mata were said about him as well.
