it does get bad press for no real reason.

The main source of bad press came with the arrival of Granada TV in Manchester.

The rivalry between Liverpool & Manchester goes back hundreds of years. Liverpool landowners were able to apply heavy taxes on cargo movement via Mersey & ship canal to Manchester's disadvantage. When the TV studios came to Manchester, every comedian was telling "scouser in a suit" jokes.

Of course, there were some grounds for the sterotypes. The advent of Containers saw Liverpool dockers resisting, the business went elsewhere & the once great(est in the world) docks became largely obsolete. Hard times.

The solidarity of the people didn't go down well in the Thatcher era, when they were hell bent on dismantling the unions (& society). The tories made sure the city was starved of investment.

I see we've finally reached 'players won't join because the city isn't a draw'

How many players live in the city? Roscoe, that it? Everyone lives in Manchester and Chesire, those sort of areas.

Mata lives close to the Spanish players group of the North West, near Manchester, so he's not moving and that's clearly a plus point. No need to move if you're settled, just stay in the area, it's what - a 30/40 commute?

Majorly doing the area a disservice if it's not considered a draw for people.

Sign Juan ffs.

I hope Juan is aware of all this!

To be fair, isn't many nice houses in the city to live in. Unless you want to live next door to a load of other people, which i can't imagine would be a draw for a footballer.
