I am disappointed like everyone else that we didn't get another striker in but if their wasn't a deal to be done for the right player at the right price then surely we must learn from the past and not throw good money after bad.
Overall I am happy with the signings we have made though without naming names I am not sure on one of the players we brought in.
The positives are we are stronger in defence and midfield, Tony Gordon is a year older and hopefuĺly going to be the player we want him to be.
We have got rid of a lot of the dead wood that have stunk the place out for a few years.
Lastly unlike last year we are no longer managed by Rafael Benitez .
I think we will be ok this year probably mid table to lower half but not fighting off relegation. We need to stick with Frank and continue to progress I don't want to see another change of manager this year.
Im not disapponited we didnt get a striker because we got Maupay, kept Gordon and sorted out the areas that were more important, central midfield and defense, this window we did what we had to do. A striker would of been nice too but we only have 13 games until the next window, its fine

How many teams have three centre forwards in reserve?

I've no idea, but when your main striker has missed 24 games and counting over this and last season, one of your other strikers is the equivalent of a human breeze block you need as many as you can get.

We always (talking some years ago) seemed to have 2 main forwards to pick from and two kids coming through. (Thinking the likes of Anichebe and Vaughan for example)
It seemed to be a steady template. Invariably, the kids never made it and you bought again.

There is no doubt we are light up front. If everybody fit and healthy, we are still light up front as we have no academy players ready to fill in.

Having said that, we were atrocious at the back and CM last season. Woeful performances and faeces players in those positions.

We could have had Kane and Haaland, but no frickin point with the defenders and midfield we had last season.
So pleased we are much stronger in those areas now.
Sure scoring goals is going to be difficult. It was last season. But we are far tighter and a better looking outfit now.
There will be bad days I'm sure, but not as many as last season. If we are looking good in January I'm sure signing a decent forward will be far easier than it is was in this window.
Decent players don't want to join relegation fodder. That is what we were.

Frank building a Moyes team. With a stronger midfield the defence will be under less pressure than of late and we will be very difficult to beat. Enough Goodison wins and we will be midtable come season end.

I think we had a pretty good transfer window. We strengthened in all the area's we needed strengthening (except for a striker). Not only that, we bought some quality youngsters. With all the FFP-regulations as it is, that's the best way to go forward. Buy young and sell for a healthy profit, rinse and repeat.

It would be nice to see us play some decent football, building up our game and to be able to hold possession for more then 3 passes. Looks like the players that were brought in will help us to do that. JC (as we Dutchies call him) always said that you can't concede a goal when you have possession of the ball. :D

And it's much easier to score goals when you play a decent possession game. Last year it almost felt all our goals came from set pieces or from loose balls/sheer luck.

Yeah I was initially disappointed we didn’t get another forward but there clearly wasn’t much available and we were lukewarm on Ben Brereton Díaz. Factoring how few games are played before the next window (and there’s effectively a pre-season before games 12 and 13 to get the squad rested and back to fitness) you can’t be signing someone you don’t really fancy on a 4 year contract just to cover that many games. And there clearly wasn’t much available on loan.

So instead we keep a bit of budget and a couple of loan slots aside for January when there will be more on the menu. Better than a desperate lunge.

Look at the goals scored for Brighton, Wolves and Newcastle last year. We effectively equalled their goals. Where we lost ground was conceeding goals.

Strengthening the defence and midfield was the priority.

As it has already been pointed out with 19 players out (loaned, released, sold) and 8 players in....we have been busy in revamping the squad (much needed) and I think they have been successful to a point. We have used the Richarlison money quite well in other areas and we look to have strengthened our defence and midfield considerably. We still got a striker in but another one would have been nice. Think Thelwell has done well in his first proper window. We have a squad of experience and promising youth (Gordon, Onana and Garner alongside Patterson & Mykolenko). Not there just yet but a promising start from Thelwell & Lampard. Just got to stick the pieces together now

Not buying a striker for once was actually a good thing, we didnt panic buy some rubbish we didnt want for the sake of it, as you say we kept some budget

Well we conceded 66 last year 66 goals the most we EVER concede.. that will not happen again. If we score the same amount as last season 43 but concede 33 that’s a +10 which is top half finish

We also had no striker
We had richy for the most part of the season...people underestimate his overall contribution to this team, not only his goals/assists...we haven't replace him and so all its on dcl really to try and match those numbers from last year

We're a lot tighter defensively and will have much better ball retention. Delivery from set pieces should be better with 3 or 4 options.

There is strength in depth now in midfield and defence and competition for places. Richarlison is very hard to replace and almost impossible to replace in one player but his qualities are certainly there in the new signings.

Its disappointing we didnt get a really top class forward but thats really really difficult. We're in a much stronger position than 12 months ago and have kept Gordon. Its was a good window all told - especially with the players who left the club.
