Many city were spot on in their spending mate. How many players did they rush out to sign who are still part of their team? Perfect way of spending big if 5 years on their team is still there.

There first four transfer window, how many players are still playing for them now? City have wasted hundreds of millions on crap or players that couldn't hack it in this leauge.

how anyone can praise citys spending is baffling to me.

Do posters genuinely believe Stones to be good as is getting made out on here....genuinely.....John Stones???

What we've seen of him in a blue shirt won't be hard to replace at all. He may become a great, I have no doubt about that to be honest but replacing what he's produced for us at this point will be easy and spending the money mentioned on this fella makes us a considerably better defensive unit than we were last season with John Stones there instead.

Aguero toure zalbaletta silva nasri kompany

If that's the best of them, that only reinforces how poor they've spent there money.

Think about the unlimited finds they've had for 10 years plus now and that's all they've got to show for it. 1 world class player in Aguero.

Toure and silva were in the 5th transfer windo. aguero in the 7th. Nasri even later then that and who cares about nasri.

So out of your list two players are worth bringing up. after spending £258 milion in those first 4 windows.

Yeah you're right man city have been very shrewd in the transfer market

Silva is top class , kompany a top defender on his day, zalbaletta was best right back in league not too long ago, toure is immense and only just declining.

Nasri was a premium player that was available, and he was decent.

But you forget these same players won the league under different managers as well. Not a one off season but more than once.

true. Replacing what stones might be will be dificult but actually replacing what he is to our squad right now. will not be as hard as people are making out.

This fella had a great season, but the season before he was criticised for his performances under Benitez.

John Stones is superb, last season was more down to the setup of the team not him

Would you take £50m for him?

I would, is he as good as Someone like Rio Ferdinand was when he went to United for £30m over a decade ago?
No doubting he *could* be as good as him.

Just playing devils advocate to be honest.

Well if you're in "no doubt" he's going to be great, then wouldn't you agree that we need to replace that banked future greatness as well as his current ability?

There is a lot of delusion about Stones, yes he can be a great player one day but that is a lot different from saying he is a great player right now, he clearly isn't at this stage but has great potential. Simply if Koeman and Walsh find it hard to replace him for a lot less then city are offering, then questions need asking.

I do think he'll be one a great player but this fella is already a great player.

If stones becomes as good as this lad is he will have done very well indeed.

This signing excites me more than any other we've been linked with, which is a bit mad considering he's only a centre half.

If we get it over the line, we're signing 1 of the top 5 defenders currently in world football. Stones just about makes the top 5 on the potentially great list in world football.

He's miles away from the real deal just yet, unlike this lad.

I don't dispute any of that but we're talking the richest club in world football and that's the sum of there 10 year spree.

1 world class player in Aguero and some very good players. The elite clubs, Real, Barca, Munich have 3 or 4 world class players on the pitch every week. City have signed 1 in 10 years.

I'd expect a lot more than that and it's probably a key reason they're not challenging the elite level clubs.
