Liverpool Echo.co.uk - Everton FC - News - Keep Everton In Our City plan football quarter and Goodison Park redevelopment

STANLEY Park should become a historic football quarter in conjunction with the redevelopment of Everton’s ground, according to a leading campaign group.

Keep Everton In Our City (Keioc) secretary Colin Fitzpatrick told supporters the venture should “celebrate both football clubs” and generate vital funds for “the most deprived area in the city”.

A presentation by Keioc last night also announced a relaunch of their own organisation, renamed Keeping Everton In Our City, following opposition to the Destination Kirkby plans.

In the land between Goodison Park and Anfield, Mr Fitzpatrick called for the development of a museum, a world centre for excellence in football, sport, science and business in partnership with one of the city’s universities, as well as leisure and community facilities, alongside performance areas to host concerts.

He said public bodies should be contacted to help fund the idea, which would also include the construction of new railway stations on the existing Merseyrail line to transport fans and tourists.

Goodison Park itself would be redeveloped “incrementally”, said Keioc architectural consultant, Trevor Skempton, with an emphasis on retaining the “unique historic elements”.

Phase One and Two would see the club secure planning permission sought for a new ‘Hotel 1878’ – to service tourism generated by the football quarter – and Park End, increasing the stand’s capacity by 8,000.

The Bullens Road Stand would be redeveloped in Phase Three, including the corner with Gwladys Street, to deliver an increase of 9,000 seats, with the sacrifice of 38 houses and the reconfiguration of Gwladys Street School.

Phase Four and Five would see the Main Stand and Gwladys Street Stand refurbished and modernised.

Trevor Skempton said: “We want to offer a possibility to the club and then they should go and decide on architects and accountants.”

The plans, said to have been developed with Liverpool FC fan group, Spirit of Shankly, will be presented to Everton FC shareholders next Monday.

do we need to have anything to do with them lot ?

I may have to start my own pressure group.

KPGIOC. Keep Parkland Green In Our City. I'll probably get shot down for saying it, but we need green spaces in our cities more than we need projects like this.

Lost my support already do not want anything to do with that group,[spirit of shankly is that the same shankly they abandoned when he left]

It's a fantastic idea for redevelopment - to make L4 the shrine for professional football in the United Kingdom...nothing would come near this plan if it came to fruition.

Effectively the bullet's been bitten already on this type of community approach to solving the stadium issue - as per LFC's plans for their stadium and local regeneration. This would just factor Everton into a different project and see Liverpool ditch their claim over the park. If their supporters are willing to put their shoulder to the wheel of making that happen, then I dont see the problem. Let them embarrass themselves all they want and keep your eyes on the prize.

Let's face it, it's a hell of a lot more imaginative than the idea Elstone is said to be toying with for increasing revenue streams: building a stand alone restaurant to replace the tent.

Makes me want to be sick mixing it with that lot of trigger happy protest marching wastes of space

Ideas should never be knocked this one to me is a bit unrealistic.

There is the stadium we want, there is the land just plonk it on, and build a hotel - simples!

it would have to be the best redevelopment in the world for anyone to consider staying in a hotel round there.

Real tears.

The plans are very over optimistic. Are KEIOC gonna pay for all this? Thought not. KEIOC should just disbanded now and stop wasting everyones time.

Keeping Historic elemnets of GP, I hope he does not mean the posts! FFS

You cannot just toy about with the stands like they are saying, they need to totally demolished and rebuilt with full open views.

As far as GP goes sounds as though this is half baked.

These plans are all well and good, however, we dont have the money to make it happen, I doubt any club in the league has at the moment.

I honestly dont know what the answer is, but it will have to be a compromise of some kind, what KEIOC are going on about is pure pie in the sky
