I think RM has handled KM beautifully.
He has shown the player that he is more than prepared to let him sit on his arse.
I think that KM knows by now that under RM he plays well and does what is expected of him or he is out.
He knows that if he plays badly he is out.
He knows that he now has the opportunity to play himself onto the team and need to keep performing.

He did the same with Rom when he wasn't firing on all cylinders last year.

Martinez was probably advised by the same consultant who advised Mourinho how to handle Costa -
The trick is how NOT to let a talented player sit on his arse -
All the other players chosen ahead of Mirallas obviously then" played well and did what was expected of them " -
With Everton in the bottom half half the team should have been out for "plaing badly"
Why has Mirallas only "NOW have an opportunity to play himself into the team "? why not from the start of the season ?
Martinez played psycological games with Mirallas at the expense of Everton - otherwise he is a good manager - apart from his substitutions.

Errr.... he got a niggly little injury and while he was out we were playing well and winning games. He came back and got a stupid red card.

After that, we had players in attacking positions in form and when Mirallas got in the side, he didn't actually have the same effect as Kone - who was linking up really well with Rom.

I agree Mirallas could have been used more, but I don't think it's anything to do with mind games. The manager simply preferred a slightly different system.

blueblue said about Martinez ; "He has shown the player that he is more than prepared to let him sit on his arse ."
in my book that is mind games mate -
who were our attacking players in form ? how many goals did they score?
how many assists did Kone give Lukaku ? they were coming from Deulefeu
we were drawing game after game with our second most prolific striker naughty boy Kevin (24 goals in 3 seasons) used as benchwarmer

True but on the plus side you can see Mirallas is willing to track back, the more he plays, the better at it he will become.
He's a winger..I suspect most other fans don't concern themselves with wingers defensive ability...Ozils tracking back ability, or how good Couthino is at crosses.

We play 2 DM's, 4 defenders and a keeper, and still have to worry about our front players being defensive enough :(

Whilst there's a lot of love for how we see two full backs in the box at the same time crossing to each other.. personally I think its a bit too gung ho, but not the reason we concede most of our goals, mostly its because we either back off and let them shoot.. or we are duffers at corners.
If Mirallas was good at corners, the corner taker would simply float it towards one of the other 9 players that can't cope with them. (Jags is still boss)
But Ozil, whilst not what you would call a defensive player by any means, still manages to put in about double the amount of tackles/clearances/blocks that either Kev or Deulofeu do. And the same goes for all the Arsenal attacking players compared to our own.

Although a relatively small difference on an individual level, Ozil isn't flying into tackles all over the pitch :p, over 4 players it can add up to quite a significant increase in the teams defending overall, especially given the fine margins that often happen in our games.

And Jags is most definitely boss ;)

But you're basing your opinion on blublue's opinion that Martinez was prepared to do so.

I think differently - I just think it was down to RM genuinely preferring to use a different system with Kone on the left to provide another option to go long to than Lukaku - and it worked in the sense that Rom bagged loads of goals as, for all Kone's faults, he does genuinely take a defender away from marking Rom, which means Rom isn't doubled up on.

Why now for Mirallas, because imo his attitude earlier in the season was not right. It may not still be right but it looks as if he is going to get a chance to prove himself.

Let's not forget that he wanted to leave the club in the summer, in fact he want to leave in Jan 2015 , he only stayed because the clubs interested in him were not on a par with where he already was. Earlier in the year he mentioned that Atletico Madrid were interested in him but that never materialised. There was the penalty incident against WBA and in general I would say that he may not have been in the best frame of mind, he also had a series of injuries.

A talented player who is not focused is better sitting on his arse than swanning around playing his own game rather than the team game.

Cleverley isn't really that solid though mate. He isn't particularly great in the tackle but does track back more. But I'd have Barkley in any day of the week if it was a straight choice, as good as T-Clevz has been

Something Cleverley learnt from playing deeper for United and Villa at times is a deceptively good reading of the game. Whilst he isn't particularly strong in the tackle, he closes down the passing lanes and makes far more interceptions than Barkley.

or the manager was wrong, and kev deserves a bit of credit for his own performance

can I just get this in writing for future reference, you think cleverley is a better player than barkley?
