Kevin Mirallas is prepared to be patient as he waits for an opportunity to regain his place in Everton’s first team. Since signing a new contract in August, the Belgian has started only two matches for the Blues; against Watford on the opening day and in the Capital One Cup tie at Barnsley. Most recently, he was an unused substitute in the 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the weekend.
“For me, it is strange not playing but the most important thing is the team winning,” Mirallas told evertontv. “The team played very well and scored three goals against the champions of last season. The result was very good and important for the next few games. “I will wait, work hard in training and when the manager says ‘now is your time’ I will try to play very well.”
Mirallas was one of three wingers selected as substitutes against the Londoners, along with
Aaron Lennonand
Gerard Deulofeu.
Steven Naismith scored his hat-trick after stepping off the bench to replace the injured
Muhamed Besic, who had started on the left flank - a position previously occupied by
Tom Cleverley before the midfielder suffered his ligament setback against Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, on the opposite touchline,
Arouna Kone has earned acclaim for his industrious performances since the start of the campaign.
And Mirallas believes such options highlight the strength in depth within the Everton squad. “We have a lot of players on top form at the moment, which is good,” he added. “Football is like that. Sometimes you play, sometimes you don’t play.”
Everton head to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday - the scene of Mirallas’ first goal in a royal Blue jersey back in September 2012. “It was my first goal in the Premier League when I signed for Everton,” he added. “I will never forget that - but Saturday is a different game. “We are playing against a team that is very strong and is playing well at the moment.”
