Apologies but is sounds like youre saying he should let the fans pick the team? Or similar?

That would be weak management. He has a vision which looks to be working and should stick to his guns.

If that means losing Mirallas or others then we need to trust the manager.

I think Martinez should look to the majority of the fan base who still support the player and think about how he and Kev can resolve the matter together

Anyway to bring balance to the thread rather than being a tit, a shame with Mirallas as he's clearly a very talented player but two thing he struggles with and are both probably related: consistency and mentality.

His reaction to adversity is to become defensive and moan about it rather than knuckling down and overcoming it. Which is bizarre as he is as good as anyone in the squad.

Martinez has given him cameos and the occasional start but he can't kick start his season. Maybe he's the type of player who needs to be guaranteed a start every week for his mind and then he will perform as the main man. Problem is that there's competition for him in this team, and completion seemingly is a negative influence on him.

Interesting that we struggle to ever put two talented wingers on the same pitch. When we had Kanchelskis and Limpar it was the latter who suffered and was sold. Sheedy was not a winger as such. Maybe the older heads can comment on the 1970 side with Morrissey and latterly Whittle in the Championship season.

Have we ever played two direct traditional wingers for a long period with success?

Not at all

What I'm saying is that Mirallas is clearly popular amongst a large amount of people in the stands, and that should be a motivator to both parties to try and get over whatever issues they both have and try to come to an arrangement. If that means that Kev gets more chances in the team and stays, great. If that means Kev has to go, then fair enough they can concentrate on getting the best deal for both him and the club.

This half way house we're in now helps no one and it's a shame that a widely popular player is in this state of limbo

I AGREE WITH ALL OF THE SENTIMENTS IN THIS POST.

Fair enough....

Edit: pressed post by accident.

I dont think either of them is bothered about fan opinion. Martinez is managing a squad and will make his decision based on the overall group and Mirallas will want game time and clearly will push for a move in jan to get in the euros.

Not sure how either would be affected by fans cheering mirallas' name.

TBF it's always felt a bit of a one sided love affair on our part, he's always whining in the papers ever since he's been here.

Yeah Mikey, but that's completely irrelevant. He's the manager, the minute he starts actually paying heed to the hypothetical dream formations us plebs put up on a Saturday hangover is the minute he's lost the plot. Between training and Mirallas' actual contribution on the pitch, Martinez clearly hasn't seen anything that excites him and, until he does, Mirallas should be left where he is.

The number of fans who still yearn for Mirallas, baffling as it is, should have absolutely no bearing on our team selection or the way Bobby runs his team.

I love this thread haha the same people backing martinez for not listening to the fans as he's the one who sees Kev in training, are fuming in the Howard thread saying " we all see he's crap so martinez should too get the beard one and Spanish clown out" it's the same line of thinking.

That aside we're a better squad with Kev in it and with our fixture list getting so crowded we'll need him in the coming months

Always looks like he can grab a goal. I wouldn't mind seeing him in any of the 3 positions behind Lukaku, whether that be centrally or right when Barkley or Del are rested or starting wide left.

Why is training THAT important? If Howard is better than Neuer in training, i dont care. If they dont back it up in the actual matches, then whats the fn point? Mirallas has consistently, since he's been here, one of the best players we have had in terms of assists and goals.

I love Kev and would love for him to play as I think hes one of the most talented on the team when he's in form. I was just pointing out some posters on here saying that martinez must see something in training that keeps Kev on the bench and is right to do so, are the same posters who take issue with him leaving Howard (presumably due to what he sees in training). I just find it funny is all.

I don't know who these fans are, Prev.

I have heard no clamour for Mirallas to be fetched back into the team in the ground or in the pubs.

He has more supporters on here than he has in the Upper Bullens or in the Royal Oak, that's for sure ;)

If Del breaks a toe nail then our next option is either Lennon or Osman. We need depth, and he's here to offer that. He might come into the team and go on a terrific run of form that we all know is in him.

He also offers competition. Perhaps it's no coincidence that Del is playing so well, he's also got someone trying to take his spot every day at training. Take note Tim Howard.

I think he's gone from thinking he's too good for us, to thinking he's not good enough to start in a very short period.

Mix in wanting to impress for the Euros this summer and that's got to have an adverse mental effect.
