The past can shape the future mate. To learn from it. We haven’t which has resulted in today. It’s not being negative for the sake of it here , I’m just bored of it all, a few decent results a season being seen as acceptable isn’t what Everton is or should be allowed to be and it has for too long. IMHO.

What you're bored of mate is modern day football where Chelsea can spend £300 million in one season yet Everton can't. Where Leicester win a league title and FA Cup but are hamstrung by FFP whilst a team like Arsenal can spend hundreds of millions every summer and not blink an eyelid despite underachieving for years.

Doesn't matter if Moshiri sacks Kenwright tomorrow we aint replicating the 80's because we're not allowed to.

Sooner fans accept we've missed the boat and that our best hope is to fluke a cup or finish 5th the better it'll be for their own sanity.

Moshiri has made changes to how the club operates by appointing Thelwell who's since started to revamp the academy and recruitment.

We've got some good young players like Mykolenko, Gordon, Patterson, McNeil and look to be adding Onana to that core and possibly Broja.

Lots of things to be optimistic aboot but if you want to cling onto the failures of the past and be miserable then thats upto you mate I can't change how you feel.

Chelsea can have their owner sanctioned, buy a player for 100 million, then loan him out 12 months later, pay the wages of about 40 players they don’t even need

And still even after all that they can pay 62 million pounds for a back up left back.

Arsenal aren’t even in the CL and haven’t been for ages yet are throwing 100 mill around two windows in a row.

The greatest league in the world……. (if you’re one of six teams…)

If you’re going to take the mick, at least be subtle about it.

We literally outspent everyone other than City, Chelsea and United from 2016-2021.

In an attempt to close a gap that had opened after we had spent a decade living hand to mouth under Moyes. For three or 4 years of spending a bit more than some clubs we’ve now been neutered for two seasons. Newcastle will find themselves in the same situation and so will Villa if they don’t make europe.

Meanwhile the top clubs who have been spending this way for years and years sell off their unwanted assets to make it look like they’ve got a low net spend.

How are Leicester, probably the best run club outside of the top 6 in the position of having to sell their players before they can buy anyone just because they missed out on CL football?

There’s no accounting in the financial regulations over a three year period for existing assets already on the books sp the top 6 will continue to spend what they like without restraint whilst everyone else walks a tightrope that has precisely one highly unlikely route to success (you mortgage everything for three years and hope you get in and stay in the CL in that period)

Leicester and us have both tried exactly the same thing in very different ways and ended up in the same place, bottom half having to sell to buy. They brought excellently, we bought terribly, neither of us are any closer.

If anything we’ve been punished for having a go whereas if we’d both just stayed in our non top 6 lanes and stopped wanting more we’d be able to spend a nice amount the top 6 seem appropriate this window rather than barely anything.

The teams you are talking about are able to what they do because they are brands and have high commercial turnovers so can take the wages hits. We are a nothing brand, we have had years to build up something in this area and failed majorly at it. As good as spending money on any signing is we could do a lot worse than hiring some really top class marketing/commercial people. For a club with our history our current turnover is just pathetic imo.

Embarassing post that.

McNeil
Tarkowski
Vinegar
Onana
Gana

All signed / due to sign

Coady and Broja heavily linked

Not good enough though because mistakes have been made in the past ?‍♂️

He is right and we should be protesting

But green shoots and all that from Frank and Kevin, I would rather they try to shore everything up and become hard to beat to ensure they land the right striker at the right price rather than panicking to get just anything in. These are the mistakes of the past.

So let me ask how can you increase your commerical turnover to the same levels as Chelsea and Man City?

the answer is by winning titles and playing consistently in the Champions League

How do you win titles and play consistently in the Champions League?

The answer is by spending money on the best players and paying them accordingly which FFP prevents clubs like us from doing !

Look at your beloved Brighton - one half decent season and lost their 2 best players in which if they spent £300+ million on quality and paid these players 150k+ a week deals to compete for the top 4 places they'll be hammered by the authorities !

It's a complete con and you're all being had off thinking its a fair and legit competition lol

Taking the Brighton example, how do they replace players of the quality of Bissouma and Cucurella? They can’t go out and spend 80 mill on two players because there are no players of that proven quality who will join Brighton. They therefore have to speculate on new prospects who may turn out to be as good as the players they’ve sold just in order to stand still. If they’re not as good then they’re absolutely screwed.

It’s effectively cementing a feeder club model for every team outside the top 6. Sell your best players or you won’t be able to buy anymore.

We are not trying to compete with Chelsea or City though at the moment and as with everything you do it in stages. It's about having a proper plan and sticking to it.

we are a long way from champions leagues or title challenges.

spending money is fine but is has to be on the right players who if they don't work out we can still get something back from it (Onana being a perfect example) As for paying accordingly, well Thelwell has already said he is putting a pay structure in place which imo is long overdue as we have handed contracts out like confetti the last few years.

Brighton have just signed a Polish midfielder who is meant to be decent, they also have Caicedo the talented young Ecuadorian midfielder we tried to sign and they have Mwepu (some argue he is better than Bissouma, I agree tbh) plus they have others, they will be fine I'm sure.

If you don't think it's a fair and legit competition then simple really, don't watch it!!

I'll watch it mate - but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking the answer to our problem is sacking Kenwright and replacing him with a half decent Chairman.

Whilst it wouldn't hurt no one is getting Everton £50+ million shirt deals with Nike because we're not a consistent CL club and we cant be because we are not allowed to spend and pay what the big 6 do without eventually hitting the FFP wall !

Clubs like us and Brighton will never build dynastys because we are not allowed.

FFP / 5 sub rule etc is to keep the big clubs from leaving to join the ESL and Sky, PL, UEFA losing their cashcows thats all its about.

If it was about fair competition and stopping clubs from going bust it would be transfer/salary caps across the board.
