….I don’t care if he ‘nearly brought in Kudus’ or that Garner was good business. He has to be accountable for failing to bring in an effective striker during the two windows he’s managed.

His incompetence almost relegated us, that should never be forgotten.

Even debatable with Garner. He's been okay, but £12m for him when we were cash strapped when we were desperate for forward players? Not sure me.

Is it him or is it the club around him though?

"Kev we need you to bring a striker in"
"Ok, how much have I got to spend?"
"50p and some training bibs"

We have had 3 DOFs in a short amount of time. They can't all be terrible right?

We also appointed Benitez and Lampard back to back so I don't see why this sounds so unrealistic

….he spent £15m on a striker who wasn’t for for purpose - Maupay. Indeed, he brought Maupay in when we’d already started the season with Gordon playing up front. He spent monies strengthening other areas of the team when central striker was an enormous and vital void.

I might be wrong, but I suspect Richarlison was here under the previous DOF, so the risk wasn’t as critical.

The issue here is that I have no idea whatsoever if Thelwell signed Maupay and I don't think anyone does! It's such a mess. We constantly hear things like manager gifts and instances where its blatantly obvious that a player is a managers signing.

Thelwell "nearly" brought in Kudus the same way I "nearly" won the lottery by getting two numbers last week.

….and I think it’s right that a Manager should identify players he wants, the DoF can bring them in if he agrees.

We should never be in a position where Brands says to Moshiri that we shouldn’t acquire Rondon only to be told; “think of him as a present for Benitez’.

Lampard was a poor coach but I think he at least worked with Thelwell so it’s safe to assume Maupay was a DoF purchase.

Dunno. We should be looking at getting a Garner or 2 every summer over a prolonged period of time. In a few years we'd have a reasonably strong youthful squad if we did this.

It's just that we should have been making deals for other more key positions this year that didn't happen and that throws the spotlight on this type of deal.

Garner should have come in with an idea of bedding him in over a couple of seasons to let him settle in and prove himself with no pressure. Unfortunately we don't live in that perfect world.

I don't think that this is the deal to complain about when there's plenty more things far worse in front of our eyes.
