Diplomatic doesn't cut it. Could you imagine Mourinho being diplomatic?

Frank's continued employment will utterly depend on getting a proper striker in. If he's calm and sanguine about that before the window closes, then it's most definitely on him if he is "let down."

No sympathy from me if he sleepwalks into being scapegoated. As I said, he'll deserve what will inevitably come to him if he naively trusts the charlatans that run the club. His predecessor seemed, somehow, to swallow a 1.7m spend last summer - and we all saw how much sympathy the hierarchy had for him when the pressure came on.

So, let's have no bleating after the event from Lampard. The time to scream is now. And that, most certainly, is on him.
I wouldn't put it in such an "anti-Frank" way as you, but I do think he's fully involved in the process based on comments he's made in the media both about the current situation as well as our major signings so far. None of us will ever know who is involved with what exactly, but I think it's a bit naive to think the manager is not involved at all and the others are just going out shopping for him and deciding who to buy and when.

I actually agree with you. The idea that poor Frank is a defenseless victim being done down by the board is nonsense. If he IS a defenseless victim, then he has no role to play and might as well resign. He should be front and centre in our recruitment drive, and I have no doubt that he is. Either way, he will bear a responsibility for whatever transfer business is done. If we don't do enough, what was he doing. If we do poor business, what was he doing. It's his job now. He's as accountable as the rest of them - or else he has no role at all to play at the club.

….there should have been one key competency for consideration ahead of him getting the job;

Provide us with a list of players you have identified and acquired in your time as a Director of Football.

That list is then analysed & the candidate questioned about it during the interview.
That's the issue, he hasn't had to do it before. At RB New York he was only there for a short period of time and the idea was to get rid of players not sign them (get the squad age down) he did loan 2 English players from the lower leagues but that was it, RB NY had very little in the way of resources. At Wolves I would imagine (might be wrong) that it was mostly Mendes identifying the targets, every other player there is a client of his or one of his subsidiaries. Thelwell may have been involved in the negotiations possibly, I know a lot of his focus there was more with the youth team.

He inherited a broken squad. Doing hard yards Within confines of FFP. Doing ok for me
This is the reality that the pants on fire squad are overlooking. We all know there is more business to do and the window is still open.

There is a reason that most business happens at the end of the window. It’s brinksmanship in all sides, vendors, purchasers, players and agents.

….my concern is that he’s called himself a ‘team leader’, which suggests to me that he has little to do with identifying players. His main remit is co-ordinating the strands of the playing elements of the club with those in charge reporting to him.

in his interviews he’s never once mentioned player acquisition as his remit.

He can ‘talk the talk’ but I want candidates who can demonstrate/show how good they are rather than candidates who simply say how good they are.

The scope of his job is a concern to me, I recall the club saying they wanted a ‘Head of Recruitment’ but I have no idea if that post was filled.

I don't like it when DoF's delegate scouting to people; sure have actual scouts to send out but you should yourself have enough general footballing knowledge to think of suitable players. Heck most of us do on here and we don't even work in football.

Steinsson was Head of Recruitment and Development.

I don't believe his role has been fulfilled or if it has it hasn't been published anywhere.

Dan Purdy is Head of Scouting and Operations. Who quit when Brands left but then rejoined.

Who knows what Thelwell does, to me he's seems like a Steve Walsh character.

What I thought was weird was Thelwell being in the dressing room after the Forest game was a thing to be reported on. Like it was something new?

By the looks of things we are completely stripping the dead wood.

Fans have called for this for years. By the end of the window they’ll all be gone. The rebuild won’t happen over night but I presume we are almost halfway there. Once we can start spending again that’s when we’ll move up the table.

Hopefully we have learnt from our mistakes and we can spend the money wisely.

….I don’t see him as a Walsh or a Brands.

This Head of Recruitment will be our definition of DoF, but he’ll report to Thelwell.

We have talked about the role but it's not been filled up to now mate, it surprises me as Id have thought with our track record in the market it would have been one of the first positions that was sorted.
