We have talked about the role but it's not been filled up to now mate, it surprises me as Id have thought with our track record in the market it would have been one of the first positions that was sorted.

…totally agree, Simon. We have a chance if this is successfully filled but it’s typical of how badly we’re being run that the post is still vacant.

Seems to me, Thelwell is a co-ordinator & not the identifier of talent.

For me it is too early to judge Thelwell. The window isn’t even closed. However, since he has been here:

Unsworth has left.
Ferguson has left.
Academy structure changed.

Delph, Tosun, Sigurdssen and Kenny have left.

Van den Beek and El Ghazi loans were ended.

Richarlison has been sold.

Dele, Virginia, Simms and Dobbin loaned.

We have signed Tarkowski, Coady, McNeill, Onana and Vinagre.

So ten transfers and more likely to happen. Let’s judge him at the end of the window.

Add to the list "Tim Cahill disappeared from his advisory position"

Deeply unimaginative player recruitment, Onana aside.
In a world where Gordon is worth £60m and Morgan Gibbs White cost £45m I think signing five players so far for a minimal outlay has been quite the challenge.

It’s easy to give it out without having to come up with anything yourself.

I don’t think we’re in a position to take risks on too many young players. Tarkowski and Coady seem like low risk signings that improve us over last season. Vinagre is a loan that gives LB cover.

McNeill and Onana are the younger risky players.

That feels reasonably balanced to me so far.

We needed some Prem experience as the aim is to stay in the league. The occasional South American prospect wouldn’t go amiss.

Mr. Thelwell, here is your "To Do" list for the next week:

Outs:
-Sell Gordon only if 50M is upfront or close to it, don't sell if 30 to 40M are add-ons (Note that we all know it's not just up to you with this one)
-Sell or loan Allan
-Sell or loan André Gomes
-Sell or loan Jean-Philippe Gbamin (almost done)
-Sell or loan Niels Nkounkou (almost done)

Bonus offer: Sell or loan or release Salomón Rondón (after signing replacements)

Ins:
Neal Maupay (almost done)

-Ben Brereton Díaz if Maupay (a proven premier league regular in the last year of his contract) will cost 15M, same situation from the championship should be even less than 15M
-Idrissa Gana Gueye, if you end up getting him for free, good job, but if you end up paying what PSG want you wasted few weeks where he could have contributed, if you end up not signing him because of PSG's demands, again good job
-James Garner, If you can get him for the reported 14-15M, good job (Not sure you want IGG and Garner, it might be one of them)
-2nd Domestic Loan: (Conor Gallagher or Armando Broja) i doubt Chelsea will loan us anyone if we don't sell Gordon, if thats the case maybe you can get Garner on loan with an option to buy, apart from those 3 names, no other player we are seriously linked from the premier league, but you can do a Vinagre
-Mohammed Kudus If you can get him on loan with an option to buy, amazing business, he is highly rated and looks promising, if he fails, he goes back at the end of the season
-Hollywood Signing? if we do sell Gordon, you have to deliver at least one big name or "Onana type of potential" signing

Conclusion:
- If Gordon stays, you have to sign one defensive midfielder and one attacking midfielder and two forwards, if you sell Gordon, at least one Hollywood signing in addition to the rest
- Will come back to this post on September 2

Having already signed five players,he is not going to sign five more. No chance.

I’m not sure we will have the money for any more than one possibly two including Maupay.

If Gordon goes, it’s a different matter.

What is the point of Thelwell . Scouted all of Europe and the world and all he can come up with is 2 Burnley, 2 Watford (1 ex), a young lad from the French league and now a Brighton reserve. Hardly going to win awards for creative transfer business
