Don't see how you can say that with certainty.

What aspects of his game do you think he'll improve?

He's 23.

Physically he's slow, not very strong - he won't get any faster
He doesn't have a right foot - If he's not learnt to kick a football with both feet by now he's never going to.
Technically he's an alright dribbler but he can't pass - all these people bleating about his stats at Burnley. You have to question why so many teams were happy for him to have the ball and cross so often, he's very ineffective in the final third.
He has good positional sense which helps him defensively.

Has has over 150 appearances in English football. That's why most of us doubt he can improve. If it was going to happen, then it would surely have happened by now, or least started to like it will happen.
It was a more general point. Players at 23 are not always the finished article and might still improve. Not that they definitely will, but also equally I don't think you can say they definitely won't

The ironic part remains that McNeil was very clearly a target during Benitez's time, and he made some sense for how Benitez played (or wanted us to at least). But I am still a little dumbfounded that Thelwell, who helped develop very different types of forwards while at Wolves, thought that signing McNeil was a good idea. This probably highlights how Thelwell was not in charge of recruitment during his time at Wolves because of Mendes. The most concerning thing is that Lampard thought that he had place in his preferred 433 system. He looks only capable of playing as traditional left winger in a 442 system.

I will say that he's clearly a player who lives and dies on confidence (we definitely know how to bring in these types) and he is young and decently skilled. While I don't think he fits 90% of PL managers, it's definitely possible that he goes on a little burner at some point and allows us to offload him to a newly promoted side like Forest who are looking for PL experience. I'm curious what the incentives are in the deal with Burnley.

I'm quite sure we have signings in mind, just don't have the brass or clout to conclude any.
Then why is he here? He isnt doing what is needed to save this team from going down, if it is purely because of lack of finances why would he not have loans lined up? I know they cost money too, but not nearly as much as permenent transfers. If he doesnt have enough clout to make deals, he needs to leave right away.

Players at 23 tend to improve their general play, i.e awareness, game knowledge, loss of selfishness etc etc

They ain’t becoming faster and learning how to use a foot they can barely stand on.

He’ll never be a threatening winger, he’s to easy to read, beat in a foot race and outmuscle

True I’m afraid.

I wonder if they can train him to be gutsier or more aggressive. That may be possible.

Would it not be better to bring in a better player?

We knew he was this kind of player before he was brought here, a lot of us pointed it out before he signed. No chance Lampard and Thelwell didnt also know this. He was always slow, always lacked real attacking prowess and was always very one footed. The question remains, why did we buy him? He seems a decent guy and i dont wish him harm in any way, but what makes him a player we needed in the squad this season? I just dont understand the logic.
Maybe some of the users who were pro getting him to Everton can give their thoughts.

I pose that question because he is an Everton player and unlikely to move on for sever as l seasons.

He also doesn't do the negotiations, he could well have handed a list of targets to the board and is just sitting here waiting like the rest of us.

What exactly does he do then, doesn't handle budgets, doesn't do negotiations.
It's a stupid, made up role for middle managers which has never been needed

My mate at finch farm says loads of players have come for negotiations but when having the final interview with Bill and Denise they've done a runner

Strange noise of chickens and goats coming from bill's office

Is it a cult old bill and red lips run?

Just on McNeil...

Perhaps a bit of misplaced optimism/hope, but I still reckon he could potentially carve out a place for himself at CAM, whether it's at Everton or somewhere else.

He isn't 'pacy', nor can he take players on with much of any regularity.. but for me it's clear that he has got good technical ability and can pick a pass. Even his tackling stats are good for an 'attacker'.

To me, his attributes seem more suited to a 'number 8' role and not as a wide forward/winger. I've seem him on a grand total of two occasions where he's played in central midfield (not exactly a good sample size like, I know..) but I've been pretty impressed both times. Part of me wonders whether he was mismanaged by Dyche for years which is why he's trying to convince himself (and everyone else) that he's best as a wide forward..
