I didn't present a binary premise, you decided to take it that way because you've decided that Thelwell's your guy and it's easier to go back on your earlier statements if you can present me and other dissenters as simple minded extremists.I find these arguments silly to be honest, the DOF hasn’t signed a striker..…we’ve signed two in 12 months….we don’t count those because we don’t like them….well ok!
We signed, Chemiti - but being generous and respecting your working very hard here for a smoking gun ,I’ll take your point. I’ve said it elsewhere I expected two wingers and a centre forward this summer, we got that and have exceeded what I thought we’d do. Anything beyond is a bonus in my view.
Though in full awareness you are creatively using my point and framing/ignoring Chemeti in a certain way. I’d agree if we don’t sign another senior striker, I’ll be disappointed, partly because we are trying. Presuming Chemiti isn’t more then we all presume. If we don’t I’d question Kevs use of resources and distribution on Chemiti more then anything.
But away from the binary premise, I’d prefer not to buy another senior striker then repeat Maupay. I think it’s prob as important to say no as a DOF as yes.
Im not sticking up for him either per say, I said it would take three years to incrementally improve the team, if you are going to employ someone id give them a Lee way of trust, I like much of what he’s done as I see some logic, obviously there are things in hindsight you’d cirtiuqe. Overall I find much if the analysis of him in the popular narrative on here, unfair, given limits and context. It’s just lads venting because the club is a skip fire and he’s a cat to kick. It was already well F’d when arrived. Do overall I guess I have some admiration and sympathy for the adversity he’s trying to work in and a lot of what he’s done is positive, the majority to be honest.
In isolation, I am pleased with the Chermitti signing. It's the sort of signing we should have been making for years alongside first team ready players. However, when we so obviously and desperately need firepower right now, to sign a player that the manager doesn't seem inclined to even include in the first team squad and a winger who can be used as a centre forward in a pinch and then not sign a first team ready specialist centre forward seems to me to be a monumental failure by the director of football.
I also have no time for this "we're trying" narrative. The club have had a minimum of eight months to line up a suitable forward and yet here we are with just over a week of the window left with seemingly no options. I'm struggling to see how that can possibly be the case in our priority position if a competent DoF did their job.

It’s pretty much an impossible job. No money, not an attractive club to top players and an owner and chairman who massively interfere in recruitment decisions. I’ve no idea whether Thelwell is any use or not but basically we could have Jesus Christ himself in there as DoF and it probably wouldn’t make much difference.

If we had JC as our DoF, he could at least get our players off the treatment table. If we always had our best XI, we would be up comfortably. It's the dropoff from those players to the reserves that's killing us.

Its pretty easy, when i played football manager as Everton manager, i would create another manager "Fred Elliot" who was hired as the Kopite manager and players like Maupay would be signed for £50 million. Once the dross had been moved on Fred Elliot would resign". Thus enabled me as manager to spend spend spend. So come on Kev you lazy useless git.

Has spent money danjuma cost 3 mill for loan, chimitti ect. We dont kno the full story but runours we out bid in for gnonto ect is money for him. He does not get a pass like the rest if we dont get enough in

I can see your point on Chemeti. To be honest I’m not going to rebuke you or agree - because it’s stupid to draw a concrete conclusion, when all I’ve seen of the lad is a YouTube clip. I’m no good at predicting the future either, so it’s utterly pointless arguing on the basis of what is at the moment is assumption. But if we finished up with him as our senior striking back up signing and he isn’t better then Simms you are correct, again like you I’d question the use of resources, also distribution and prob wtf did we sell Simms. But that hasnt happened. It’s two games in mind.

Personally, I can see logic in things he’s trying to in the context of really adverse circumstances, limits and lack or resources - to say nothing of governance.
TBH, we need a centre forward, but we needed more then that, we needed creativity and threat, I think the whole offensive unit needed strengthening and I think in the main - all fit we have done that and prob do a couple more. I think we will incrementally improve marginally and be more competitive. That’s been my personal expectation to be honest.
Hopefully another forward comes in too!

This has always been my position on him….we simply do not know under what financial restrictions he is working but we do have a strong sense of the levels of stupidity and incompetency he is working under. It’s just not easy to see how good or effective he is (and he may well be crap).
His transfer dealings I think are patchy but we do not know what targets are being presented to him, what targets he is presenting to the board, and what is being agreed or vetoed for financial reasons or otherwise. Transfers are also only one part of his role. Baffles me that people just dump him with all the other previous DoFs.
Once a trend is identified (of seemingly poor performing DoFs and managers) the next step is to look at the root causes and the common denominators. The issue is either the individual in the role, the operating environment or a combination of both.

I am stating, for the sake of clarity, that in my opinion Thelwell over three windows has failed to increase our ability to score goals. In all honesty, I couldn't care less about Thelwell, he's a symptom not a cause. What I find peculiar is people, like yourself, claiming that he's doing a good job and that our squad is better when he's signed a 38 year old wing back (when we don't use wingbacks), two middling wingers on loan and a promising striker that our manager won't play. It seems very much like the absence of a plan and I am extremely worried that it will result in our relegation. That is my only concern, not being, as you put it, "internet right".

If he got Danjuma in on loan why hasnt he got a more needed and suited centre forward on loan in the past 18 months? Evertons clear problem is a lack of presence up front. Danjuma isnt that type of forward. Coz im gona go with the no money thing for this purpose. But he got a loan player in. Has there been no centre foward to lead the line for Everton anywhere in the world on loan in the last 18 months?
yea but as a DoF for Nazareth FC, players kept wandering off into the desert or drank too much free wine
So are we saying that if he talked Lee Trundle and Dave Nugent out of retirement then he would have done his job of delivering us a centre forward??
