He has an impossible job, Chris. IMPOSSIBLE! How can he possibly be expected to sign a striker with only nine months of planning time?

He’s been at the club 18 months now. We’re 18 months (half way) into the supposed 3 year window he’s got for us to start expecting signs of improvement, and all I’m seeing is signs of decline. Dropping shapes.

Wowsers, you really are exceptionally condescending. And wrong about my standing on Thelwell. You claim that I'm saying you have to be for or against Thelwell, which is bizarre based on my comments. I am stating, for the sake of clarity, that in my opinion Thelwell over three windows has failed to increase our ability to score goals. You seem to be stating that he needs six windows to have any meaningful effect, which in my opinion will be too late. You were the person earlier in the window that stated that if Thelwell didn't sign a striker then that would be problematic.

In all honesty, I couldn't care less about Thelwell, he's a symptom not a cause. What I find peculiar is people, like yourself, claiming that he's doing a good job and that our squad is better when he's signed a 38 year old wing back (when we don't use wingbacks), two middling wingers on loan and a promising striker that our manager won't play. It seems very much like the absence of a plan and I am extremely worried that it will result in our relegation. That is my only concern, not being, as you put it, "internet right".

Apologies if you feel condesenttion, that’s not my intention. I am however replying to a debate, i didn’t instigate about a post I made months back (I actually don’t remember - but let’s play for fun) and asked to defend the DOF if he doesn’t sign a centre forward, despite signing a centre forward. To be honest it’s a bit weird. I’m trying to understand your point of view and be kind to be honest, in an interaction I didn’t seek or instgate.

You literally said, Thelwell was my man, you go on to criticise him so you present the lines for and against - that’s binary, in or out. I said I had some admiration and sympathy for him working,in limited resources, limits and poor governance and I do. I’m more open minded on him tbh rather than for or against, I’m actually skeptical about the role full stop to be truthful. I definitely think a DOF needs three years, a manager to for that matter. So we ultimately land back at not signing a centre forward, yet we signed two in the last 12 months, but they don’t count because you don’t like them, we’re not making progress.

Your judgement on our signing is fine, they will play out so either the DOF has brought in what you describe as essentially rubbish or has just built an offensive unit and added vital cover for essentially no money, when we don’t have any. it will all play out nothing surer! ;)

Yeah, ok.

How’s Neal Maupay working out mate, because that’s the only real striker he’s bought

Can’t blame him at all. He’s the 3rd DOF that hasn’t done anything here. And i feel sorry for him more than anyone. How can he improve us when he hasn’t got a pot to **** him.

He has a black mark for the Maupay signing, just like Brands has for not standing up for himself and Walsh has for spending silly money on Messrs Keane, Bolasie and Iceland

It’s his job; he would have known his budget a good couple months ago

So I’d expect him to work within that parameter. If he’s got to spread the cash thin, sound. Then use your scouts, your data and hit the markets and take a gamble.

If not, identity a high value asset and sell them. We need goals more than anything else in the world.

But don’t wait until the 24th hour, costing us points and causing unrest.

Get a centre foward in on loan that is the requirement the team clearly needs. Then when they're not brilliant we'll bemoan we're shopping in the bargain basement. Dont however do fck all about it for 18 months and start two campaigns without a single centre forward option.
We all know we're unlikely to get quality. But dont do nothing. Thats even worse.

didn’t say he gets a free pass mate

(maupay)

but he’s been working with f all mostly
Absolutely. I said before re Brands that whoever takes on the role must accept responsibility for the success or otherwise of footballing affairs but I think anyone would find it challenging. Even when we had money to spend decisions were being made separately on who we sign by DoF, manager, owner etc. it’s a total mess.

The problem is the ownership/board and of course the DoF is part of that but I think while BK and Moshiri are still here there will be no noticeable improvements.
