…..the point is, there are players out there who represent value.

We paid £12m for Maupay when there was better available for cheaper and we’ll look back on this window and see the same. It doesn’t matter if the fee for Beto was agreed two seasons ago, a club had the foresight to pay £5m for him last summer, 12 months later we’re paying £27m.

Only time will tell if Beto is a £5m or a £27m striker, hopefully he makes the difference to our survival bid. We shouldn’t be congratulating Thelwell for finally signing a couple of strikers, hopefully they are good enough to fill the void.
I don't know. Convincing a club to sell us a player at any nominal price for no consideration now, when the club might be in administration next year, seems like it would take some doing.

…i suspect that is factored into the price. Nobody was paying £27m for a Portuguese striker without an international cap who cost just £5m last season. It doesn’t ‘take some doing’ to strike a deal the selling club is absolutely delighted with. Let’s not see this as great financial business from Everton. All we hope is that Beto makes a difference.

If on the other hand Chermiti turns out to be top drawer then Thelwell will deserve some credit, but let’s not forget we’re nearing the end of his 3rd window and he’s only now addressing a key problem.

he already played 62 games in Serie A scoring 21 goals so 2 seasons. So that GBP 5M is long gone. I think the price is fair we just never scout players before they make a name for themselves lol

Do we look at selling Pickford to fund other purchases?

He wouldn't be a huge loss imo if we bought in a steady keeper to replace him. Steady keepers don't cost the earth - Yann Sommer just moved to Inter from Bayern for £5m, terrific goalkeeper good for another 3-4 years yet.

Id have sold him and signed Bart Verbruggen for the £16.3mil Brighton paid.

Well, the comment was about Beto.

If were discussing other available players then we can also name Gakpo, Kudus, El Bilal Toure and the like who Thelwell wanted last summer.

However, as weve been informed by Bobble those players were either blocked by Kenwright and Moshiri or we couldnt agree payment terms.

So it wouldnt be on Thelwell.

Precisely, it was gone the moment he joined Udinese 2 years ago.

We scouted and were in for Caicedo as well. It was mentioned months before Brighton signed him.

Did you rate Beto 2-years ago to bring him here before Udinese? Maybe the club didn’t.

Of course not. Thats also my own point.

Lets remember, Thelwell (the target of the negative comments) didnt actually join the club when Beto was signed 2 years ago under obligation.

So its impossible to criticise him about not signing Beto then.

Lookman ?
Vlasic ?
Onyekuru ?
Kean ?
Nkounkou ?
Digne ?
Gueye ?

That's only going back 3 years

We technically made profit selling Bernard for £1mil when we got him for free and £8mil for Rodriguez too

You've pulled out some bizare names there mate. No idea what the lookman fees were. Same with onyekuru. Vlasic left Everton for an undiclosed fee. What profit did we make on nkounkou? We paid 27/8m for keane. And got around the same back i think. Made a small profit on digne. gueye wasnt a bad one. Though we ended up giving it back in the end when he returned

The point i was making was Richarlison has been the only player really that went for a very big selling price after being bought.

We bought Richarlison for a massive fee though so we didn’t make a huge profit on him.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's another Rondon.

We've moved on Holgate (only on loan at this stage), Simms, Davies, Townsend, Kean and Coady. Would love more to go, but it's hard to sell trash unless you're selling to Everton.

Letting players’ contracts expire does not count as moving them on for me. There was already an agreement in place to sell Kean which he had nothing to do with. So he’s moved on Simms basically.

i know. I used Richarlison not so much about profit but the high end transfer fee that another club was willing to pay. Tbh brighton wasnt a fair example. As they're killing it over most clubs.

It appears as though this concept is too abstract for some people to understand. Yes of course there are players with value in the Championship, and the world markets, and we can identify them, but none of that matters if the Chairman and owner overrule you, but for some that is still the fault of the DoF, despite numerous reports that indicate the contrary.

We simply do not know how good or poor he is at his job so there is no evidence one way or the other but there is mounting conjecture that BK and FM constantly interfere. Being a DoF is about more than just first team transfers….it’s a medium to long term role for any success to become visible.

Where I do hypothetically blame Thelwell, is if he cannot carry out the duties of his office due to constant interference from above, he needs to resign. A resignation from him without him going anywhere would tell us all we need to know.

If you took a job somewhere as a promotion and when you arrived, the owners rejected some of your suggestions...

...would you quit and say adios to a large salary?

In reality only a limited number of people would do that. There would be those who just pocket the cash and others who try to work in grey areas.

I think Thelwell is in the latter group.
