No I understand it, but to use the classic "wheres the Arteta money " line, I worry if some of it disappears to never be seen again. Moshiri can't access the funds he used to, I hope we stay up and are able to fund next summers window. We are making some positive financial moves regarding clearing players and wages.

Oh let’s face it, that money is gone. In my head it’s stadium/loan shark money. But avoiding an embargo is important.

I’ll be shocked if Gomes is still here next week, he’s costing us about £6m a year

Yeah I struggle to understand how people fail to see that we’ve brought in a load of money, massively reduced the weekly squad wage & have made profit on player sales 3 years in a row… we will look really good going into that meeting in October.

I still think that will just be a formality and a fine at most. But even then with the apparent cooperation and the last few years tightening belts, we may not even get that.

The P&S are guidelines rather than rules with defined reppourcusions. So they're flexing to show they're in control of the league. They don't even know what punishments they should give out.

Our breach is purely down to last year's financials and nothing historic going over multiple years (ala City). So it'll be going to the headmasters office for a telling off but you've booked your ideas up so off you pop

I wonder if we can’t get a Saudi or Turkish team to take him before their respective deadlines if we’ll pay him off like we did with Rondon last year.

Paddy Boyland’s Athletic article reckons we only paid the Danjuma loan fee this summer upfront. Brought in £45m in transfer fees and have cleared £40m a year from the wage bill. The wage/turnover ratio should now be in a far more manageable state.

The sales would mean Kean has gone on last years total.

Iwobi
Cannon
Simms
Nkounkou
+loan fees

=£45mil + Stones clause £2.5mil.

£40mil a year off the wage bill isnt small either.

Gomes + Gray going to Saudi would be even more impressive.

Does this mean that we’ll have to sell someone next year to cover their transfer fees? As it stands we can’t afford to buy anyone next summer and we’ll have about 12 players left after contracts have expired?

That £40m wages saving can’t be net surely?
The new signings even if conservatively on £30k per week average ea, would be another £5m or so on top

The more you see of just how bad things are in the wider business the more I think Thelwell and his department have had just about as good a window as they possibly could have. They have brought in three players in Beto, Harrison and Danjuma who greatly improve the first team all for 3m outlay, and secured what I think are really good fees for Iwobi, Cannon and Simms. Just wish they'd found a way to get a defender or two in but it sounds like it was even worse than the sell to buy we thought it was and there genuinely was not a pot to piss in.

When you add in the disappearing Gordon and Kean money he is operating a significant transfer profit and not getting it to work with, it's going straight into keeping the lights on. The business of a football club should exist to fund the football department, at Everton right now the football department is funding the business.

As frustrated as most of us are at the lack of a few more signings I suspect that if and when the facts of this period are known it'll be Thelwell and his people whose wheeling and dealing have kept our heads above water in spite of the utter shambles going on above their heads.
