2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

I have dire news for you if you think we will be buying Broja and Mangala

But I have good news for you if you want to overhaul the squad, because under PSR rules we will likely be allowed to spend up to 210m on players/wages, and our wage bill will be 70m!
Yeah there is a chance we buy them considering we agreed the clauses in to actually buy them, but ok its apparently 100% we wont want them according to the gospel peregrine

Ok. We signed Alcarez so not a complete disaster .. However TFG need to seriously look at the whole scouting / recruiting set up and sack the lot of them and go again .. understand its a tough window but surely they could of found at least one more to strengthen a weak squad. Confident we will have enough to be safe under Moyes but are gambling dangerously if we get more injuries.. Coyb 💙💙
First how about we turn the bold off ok?

Just going down the list of Thelwell's signings of note they're mostly all at worst passable. I mean just simple pass or fail, was this a total waste or did we at least make something out of it you're going to get mostly passes. Here is the list:

Onana (sold at profit, pass)
McNeil (say what you want he hasn't been a disaster, pass)
Maupay (probably the worst one on the list, fail)
Garner (pass)
Gueye (pass)
Tarkowski (pass)
Coady/Vinagre on loan (whatever, two fails for me but Coady can be a pass easily)
Beto (I guess tbd?, seems like it'll end up as a pass)
Chermiti (more TBD than anything)
Danjuma (fail, but an inexpensive one)
Young (pass)
Harrison (pass)
O'Brien (seems likely to be a pass)
Ndiaye (could be way more than just a pass)
Iroegbunam (pass)
Lindstrom (pass)
Mangala (pass)
Broja (I'd still say pass but if you want to go fail it's a small one)
Begovic (lol)
Alcaraz (TBD)

I know this is simple and generous, but the point here isn't to say he's built the greatest squad ever so much as to say given the constraints, and there have been so many constraints, he's done a good job to not hemorrhage cash, find improvements at lower prices and actually get something out of the real money when he has it to spend. You put someone who might actually develop a player or two in charge and we might have something here. Frankly for the first time since Moyes first tenure it really does feel like there's some real planning behind who we're signing.

I'd actually be pretty upset if they ripped it up right now. We might have the ability to spend more than we take in this summer and I want the guy who has found talent without that luxury to have a real shot at it.

I agree with most of them, minor corrections, I would give Broja a firm fail, simply based on the here and now, harsh, but im a tough nut to break.

Dont ever give my Asmir a lol, hes good people.

And honestly based solely on his 2 goals the other day and what I expect in the future, Beto is a firm pass for me.

Just to be clear the Asmir lol is me forgetting he was in our squad until I was reading down the transfers list.

I've been wanting Beto to play over Dom for ages now so Saturday just gets me excited that we're finally going to get the extended run he's deserved for awhile. It's the ones with the most potential to go sideways still but I do not believe it will.

But I was a big fan of Brands whilst here and you can say he signed him or didnt sign him, but KT is clear currently.

Fair play to the fella, I am going forward gonna lay off getting into him.

If hes moved on the summer so be it, but he could show TFG his body of work so far and they should be "impressed".

I think its a "shame" in a way, Moyes comes in, we looks miles better, then DCL cant reap the "benefits", would have been interesting to see him in this Moyes side.

I know, I know.

But its Betos time to shine now, fickle yes, but I back our number 9, whoever it is, well apart from Kone, I hated Kone.

As a long time member of the "strikers miss chances it isn't the end of the world" society I've had a lot of patience for Dom but sadly the lad just cannot consistently finish at the level you need to be at. And when that gets merged with an ever decreasing physical ability that limits how many chances he can manufacture for himself I just stop seeing any way for it to truly work anymore.

Also just never bought that his all around play is any good at all, I truly think Beto just Niasse-ing himself into defenders will have a similar level of effectiveness even if it might hurt to look at sometimes.

I just think he and Beto were victims of the footballing terrorist we had in charge.

But as I say, its over now, Beto plays, so I back him.

Largely correct - but not sure how Broja can be considered a pass, were paying his wages, not sure but likely paid some fee, he's played about a 100 minutes and managed to come off injured in 2 out of 4 games played once by kicking the floor, by the times he's back the season will be essentially over and he used up a valuable loan spot for domestic which badly restricted us in January.

As hard a fail as you can imagine really.

As for given Harrison a pass, sorry, but what? 90k per week, so close on 5m this season firvan utter pile of tripe.

Beto is definitely TBD as well so far he's been a fail, he's hardly done a thing in a year and a half and we paid 24m for him - continues like he did at the weekend then a different story ofc.
