2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

yup, that's a good argument,
I do think that the days of the head coach taking on all the responsibilities of the DoF are gone tho.
I agree, although I think Moyes would have a fit if anyone dared to call him a 'head coach'.

He's a manager, and an old school one at that. We know he's the kind of guy to watch Czech division football and god knows what else so maybe he's the last of a dying breed.

I could live with giving Moyes ultimate authority on transfers for the duration of his contract before perhaps revisiting the DoF model when it's time to look for a new manager again. Who knows, maybe our next DoF would be Moyes!

I think there is an opportunity in our new PSR world to find bargains in January from teams strapped for cash, much like Newcastle and spurs did with us. Zigging whilst others zag is always a good thing.

That said, you have to have some cash available to make use of this strategy, which we obviously aren't well placed for this year.

So, I'm okay with what he has done, especially in light of the listing of his signings above.

Moyes has finished the fella there. Basically said to him all your planning (they plan a few windows in advance) has been a waste of time, you can't identify players within budget who would improve this squad so we'll stick with what we've got. A ballsy move from Moyes but he's got the security of those 3 wins on the bounce behind him. Impossible to see how Thelwell can stay in the role beyond this season.

Moyes specifically said in his last press conference that people involved in recruitment at the club had done “a remarkable job”

100% mate...Moyes has said he doesn't mind working under a DOF which personally I don't buy especially given he was butting heads with the geezer at West Ham.

He'll want complete control over who's coming in and out the door which means Thelwell is redundant.

You probably find he's currently looking up his contacts in the game for potential future employment.

Starting to think the debate is a bit pointless on this thread

On the one side you’ve got people taking PSR, net spend, wage reduction, quotes from moyes, assessment of players into consideration and then on the other “durrrr thelwell out”

And repeat

We’ll see if he’s here next year I guess..

Lopetegui also seemingly fell out with him though so I think maybe he just wasn't the easiest person to work with. Although I agree Moyes is a notorious control freak.

Even Moyes admitted in his press conference that PSR is an issue until the summer.

We simply could not afford to spend.
Even Alxaraz for only 12m is a loan.
