2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Tell me .... how did we miss out on this, the most Everton of signings.

We better hope not, done wonders to get Tim and Ndiaye for what he did, and Lindstrom and OBrien look good to. 2 bad permanents from 11 is incredible for us, especially considering our budget.
It's interesting to me that so many of Thelwell's detractors are the same people who always want to point out the circumstances the club finds itself in when defending Dyche's performance but are happy to ignore it regarding Thelwell. Overall, I think Thelwell's done quite well. Certainly in terms of sales and reducing the wage bill, and he's brought in some good players in midfield. He does seem to have a blind spot for forwards, however, and I have no idea what's going on at fullback, so a mixed bag overall, I suppose.

I see that @Eggs has put a laughing emoji on this post which is, indeed, funny because he is one of the very people I had in mind when writing the bolded section.

….my view is a bit reverse, Dyche gets lots of stick but can only pick from the players the DoF acquires. For me, there are too many positions that have been left fragile for far too long.

Thelwell tends to get an easy ride, although Ndiaye and Lindstrom look the types Dyche was calling for last season.

I do think Chermiti is an important player to determine Thelwell’s judgement, I’d be the first to congratulate the DoF if he turns out to be an effective top flight striker.

Same i feel he has left us short every window, is hard to really get the full details on how he is doing. Just think has done ok, is why hopefully with a new owner can really look into the job he has done and future plans. Like dyche for me i am not certain he will be with us next season

I wouldn’t worry about it, he has openly stated in the past that he uses the “ laughing emoji” just to wind people up because he knows they won’t like it, whenever I see him using it I know someone has got to got to him and he doesn’t have a reply. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry but that is so funny , you keep repeating the Chermiti/ Thelwell thing all the time with the same words “ I haven’t seen anything in Chermiti yet , he can’t be any good , Thelwell signed him “ Then to the Thelwell thread “ Thelwel can’t be any good he signed Chermiti “ it’s like you’re stuck on a roundabout with these two that you can’t get off.

…ha, ha. I’ve been waiting for Chermiti to show signs and I think there was a few in pre-season.

The reason I mention him is because it will prove to me that Thelwell was right and I was wrong. It’s my individual benchmark I have in my mind for Thelwell. I’d be delighted if his judgement was spot on.

It is hard to give a full accurate judgement on his overall performance as DOF. We don’t know the full details and probably never will know of the sort problems he was facing with finances. He has left us short in areas, but is that down to the inability to cover every position with limited money, or his failure to get those signing over the line or mixture of both. Personally opinion, I think he has done okay, would be good to see if we wasn’t restricted could he get those gem signings and also cover areas such as South America and Asia. I fully expect him to leave at the end of the season regardless if a takeover happens, new owner most likely want there own people in.

Think he has the best chance to stay if honest will still have to impress the new owner but would not surprise me if he fits the profile more than dyche and given a chance. Like when textor said about players would fit thelwell alot more than dyche

It’s hard to know where the blame lies in recruitment. Some early promise in the signings of Tim and Ndiaye. Some glimpses from Mangala and Lindstrom. With very little money to spend, I’d argue those signings have improved the starting 11 and squad depth.
The problem is we’re still reliant on Coleman and Young for right back and Mykolenko at left back. We don’t know if that’s because Thelwell was making suggestions and Dyche was saying ‘nah, not as good as Youngy’ or if there was a collective decision that full backs weren’t a priority. In which case Thelwell needs to take a good portion of the blame for our dreadful start.

Maybe we should have addressed that with the money of instead spending in Dele Alli.

We probably have improved, but not in quality comparing to the league, the clubs have done their homework, especially Forest and Fulham, Brighton spend their hard earned money over the years. Palace and Bournemouth did decent.

This in comparison that the teams that came up are stronger than last season. And the manager isn't doing us a favour either atm.

Think Thelwell has managed to get Dyche the best squad of players he had to work with at Everton probably in his career.

Given what Dyche says about players coming in, not putting up Thelwell for the blame for the obvious weakness at left and right back.

The majority of signings have improved us. I know Beto is often cited, it's the hardest posistion to sort. Was listening to Moyes interview he struggled with posistion with us and West Ham.
