2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Well...exactly, its not easy

Plus he must have spent most of the time trying to sell or get rid of players who were patently not good enough, at times it must have been like selling ice to go the Eskimos. It
Must be hard trying to get better players in when you're under pressure to lower the wage bill and make a profit. KT over and out..:)

It means you need to have a watertight plan and we haven't had that under Thelwell imo. We have to hope TFG will be better as in hindsight the Dof role has been pointless under Moshiri.
You can have the most watertight plan in the world and it be utterly worthless if the higher ups are hell bent on torpedoeing it at every opportunity. The running theme of every DoF and Manager since Carlo has been that they've been over-promised and under-delivered on everything finances. We haven't even had a board for about 2 years now.

Agree with that but the board but is a fair bit longer than two years mate.

Hence my comment about the role just being pointless in the Moshiri years, from day one we have just made a total balls up of it and the way the role should run.

The DoF model should be that they create a group of players that are of a certain type/style and to have a manager to suit, if it goes wrong for the manager the next manager should be employed based on the squad that is being assembled.

The next manager shouldnt be overhauling the squad he has inherited or the DoF model has failed.
You cant go from playing out from the back Lampard to 40,000ft Sean Dyche.

Meh I agree the next manager shouldn't be overhauling squads, which is mainly where we have went wrong but you definitely can switch playstyles and have success. Newcastle went from Bruce to Howe, Brighton went from Hughton to Potter. Hell, we went from Martinez, to Koeman, to Silva to Ancelotti and each improved on the previous last season in their first.

The problem we had is we kept buying bad players and then the house of cards collapsed when we also couldn't attract a decent manager

Yeah it doesnt help when you have the owner sticking his nose into transfers, also letting managers cherry pick certain players.
Thats how ended up in a mess.

Continuous relegation battles and one again this season? Some genius your mate is.
Think you missed the bit where I said he was none partisan, he hasn’t mentioned fighting relegation or bothered to laugh or mock in years. His comment was about the quality of the side.
