2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

May of not of got much profit and some of those wages would be bad but a fair few of them walk into this team
Yes some would but the point was more around how awful / injury prone some of them were and how much we paid for some of those purchase and what we recovered back in a transfer fee when they left. It financially buggered us.

Now I’m not completely justifying Thelwell’s performance here, but some people act like it’s completely his fault when out if the three DoFs he’s had by far the worse hand to play.

All three DoFs have not exactly been brilliant so was it the operating environment they were in and the Board? Yes.

Think he will have to go too, when you look around players like Mbemou for Brentford have been signed for £6 million compared to our striking signings in same period. Suppose the only saving Thelwell has is he evidently does not have remit as other FoD have, as in formation and style.

Get this fella gone too regardless of finances the team badly lacks pace and goals, it is out there even for the funds we have had
It seems the basic question is, did he recruit players merely because they could be paid for over a lengthy period, expecting them to be coached into a pattern of play which matched their strengths? Alternatively does he endorse 'dycheball' and knew they would be asked to play that way?
As DOF he should have a major input into our tactics which seems not to be the case.
For me questions to answer.

With the amount of money he was throwing around you'd hope some of them would walk into this team. But not even all of them would (Andre Gomes for example). And like you say not much profit was made on them and it all left us in a bit of hole really didn't it.

I mean i understand what your saying about some of the being injury prone, but tbf i could flip tjat onto thewell and say HE got got Broja whilst he was injured, didnt play till late december started two games and got possibly injured again? Just saying

It could be the ones who left yeah or it could be the ones who stayed whilst not being good enough. How much is keane on a week? Remember at the time when we bought him i didnt want him and thought we could of got better for same price. Or it could be our record transfer fee siggy who is STILL our highest fee paid for a player and on high wages who we got rid of fo being a sketch for no fee

Yeah Walsh was the worst of the lot IMO, but you can blame Moshiri and BK for hiring him for that role in the first place when previously he'd been a scout

Bulleting Thelwell now doesn't really do anything. The DoF / Sporting director role is one that requires continuity. Such that managers and players can come and go but there will be a plan that is always keeping us on track.

I personally feel he's done alright in difficult circumstances, a few iffy transfers but some good ones given our resources and PSR issues. He's also done well to get the wage bill right down.

I don't think Dyche would be his choice of manager.

Eventually, Thelwell should be replaced but for me there should be a more considered handover between him and his successor.
