2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

I'm sure @Eggs ia Stephen Warnock...

Numbers totally off here yet again and zero mitgation...its absolutely bewildering how so called 'experts' (lol) or ex pros asked for a quote can literally lie like this...

Stephen Warnock has slammed Kevin Thelwell for his poor recruitment at Everton over the last couple of seasons.

The Toffees are currently a lowly 15th in the Premier League table and, while they spent a fair bit of money in the summer to bolster their ranks, things haven’t quite gone to plan.

Players such as Jake O’Brien have barely had a chance to prove their worth, and while others such as Iliman Ndiaye have been an instant hit, it feels like Thelwell should have done far better.

Warnock was speaking about Everton’s recruitment live on Sky Sports News (16 December, 12:30pm) and shared that he thinks somebody needs to be held “accountable” for the wastage of money at the club.

“There needs to be an understanding of how the club’s run. Since Farhad Moshiri took over, there’s no clear direction. The other thing that needs more accountability is the signings. Kevin Thelwell is in charge now and has spent an awful lot of money,” he said.

“He’s spent an awful lot and got away with it. A lot of people say ‘Everton haven’t got money’. They signed Beto for £37million – he’s on the bench. There are lots of others – [Youssef] Chermiti for, what, £20m. It hasn’t worked.

Straight away, you have two strikers for more than £50m. Why is Thelwell not accountable for those signings? Lindstrom has come in for £20m – on the bench. O’Brien comes in for £20m – not played. They have money but don’t know how to spend it. Yet nobody is accountable for it.”

Speaking on Sky Sports News (6 January, 12:14 pm), Warnock criticised the Toffees’ recruitment, saying: “They brought in Broja, who was injured.

“Why would you sign a player who’s injured when there’s pressure on you? Another strange signing. Why didn’t they look at Liam Delap?”

Just like @Eggs this Stephen Warnock.

"Instead of signing a player for no fee due to their PSR issues, why didn't they spend £20mil"...

He spent the transfer kitty on O'Brien who has rarely featured and Dyche played Keane up front.

I think its quite clear that the O'Brien signing was not made by Thelwell.

Or are you saying that its a coincidence that he, Mangala and Nuamah were all pushed to join Everton over other party's ?

So he’s not ‘directing the football’ then is he?

When he said ‘Everton fans are going to love watching him play’ , was someone behind him with a gun to his head?

He is the DOF, it's on his watch and he takes full responsibility for it.
Absolutely if I was DOF and my jobs to recruit players and I’m not happy with players coming in, well ultimately them players are on my head and I’d have no part of it and state that clearly. And then potentially be sacked, well so be it rather get sacked than be a yes man especially if I rate myself in the job. He needs to go as well as the recruitment has been awful regardless who’s involved it falls on him in my eyes.

Yup, it's the Marcel Brands defence all over again.

He could state what responsibilities he has as Everton DoF... Because he has not and its been long discussed by many, myself question that decision not clarify, the only logical conclusion I come too he rather enjoys having the job title.

I think you might be onto to something, Zat. 🤔

Think he will have to go too, when you look around players like Mbemou for Brentford have been signed for £6 million compared to our striking signings in same period. Suppose the only saving Thelwell has is he evidently does not have remit as other FoD have, as in formation and style.
I think since Thelwell has been our DOF, Brentford have signed Maupay on loan from us and Thiago for 33m who has played 4 games without scoring.
