2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

If this fella was any good he would already have our January transfer window business done and dusted considering we are just above the relegation zone and the previous Manager was and the new Manager is absolutely desperate for more quality in the team. Zero chance his contract gets renewed thankfully.
Doesn’t always work like that though does it?

Everton can’t just demand that the players they want sign for them.
You have to have a willing seller and a player wanting to come.

As if transfers are as simple as your post suggests.

Are we allowed to discuss the fact that our best performance of the season came with his 4 main summer signings together in the team for the first time?
No, I don't think so.

Nor are you allowed to discuss that he signed players while at the same time being forced to make a profit in the transfer market.

In his post match comments the manager made it clear he was already well aware of Lindstrom as a player.
It would also seem he knew what Jake O Brien could bring to the team. It is clear what Ndiaye has to offer.

I think DM may well trust the work of Kevin Thelwell far more than the know alls on GOT.

I personally think they've kept him to show Moyes round any new rooms at FF and to see if he wanted his office decorating.

If they were really impressed with his work I'd have imagined he would have been offered a deal instantly. Maybe he doesn't want a deal, maybe he thinks he's done the best he can and wants a change.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
I think they are aware of the work he has done at the club and the circumstances he has been forced to work in.

I believe they realise that generally he doesn't waste large amounts of money and is capable of putting innovative deals together.

When you are forced to sign players but have no funds available then it makes it more likely some deals will not be successful.

My feeling is they will wait and see how he operates in this window, wait and see how he interacts with the new manager before making a decision either way.

Still extended the loan of Jack Harrison for 12 more months. Loaned Broja who we are now seemingly stuck with.

We‘re still relying on a 39 Ashley Young if our left back gets injured. Similarly 35 year old Gana has to play every second or we’re stuffed. The absolute lack of depth is worrying and we saw it as soon as we made subs.

Still the same bloke that committed to spending £40m on two strikers that after a season and a half with us have 4 goals in the league between them.

Still the same bloke that can’t get decent development loans for the likes of Armstrong/Dixon/Chermeti etc to allow them to push on.

Blokes useless but one game that by the end was nearly pure Everton that and the blokes a genius. Hmm.

I think he’ll go in the summer. They’ve probably agreed to keep him till the contract ends as they can’t bring in his replacement yet and it’s better to have him here for the club’s transition than have no one. He’ll get his money regardless.

And if that's the end to his time with us I won't criticise him at all.

He did the single most important job he had, reduced the wages, reset the wage structure, only spent money on players with resale value. Kept the club from being hit again this season by PSR.

It's often says that you judge recruitment on being successful if you hit a 50% success rate in players, think Ferguson was the one saying that.

By the time he leaves we will look back and I think he'll have be around that in recruitment. Certainly if both O'Brien and Lindstrom continue as they left off yesterday and he still has January to add more.

….his first window when we had DCL seriously injured. No back-up acquired before the season started, Simms sent on loan, I think Gordon played as central striker. The situation continued, game after game with no striker until he brought Maupay in as the window closed. Needless to say, we still finished the season with Gordon playing as our central striker

Still pinning Maupay on him?

I always assumed he would be extended with the new manager coming in being the short term fix while he develops long term strategy for Friedkins
But maybe part of the rationale behind Moyes is that he has shown before that he can operate without a Director of Football - so long as its within the remit of bridging the next 1.5 seasons.
