2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

We can't be making too many judgements off the back of a win against a terrible Spurs side. I still think we've assembled close to the worst squad in 30 odd years. Big transfer windows ahead to change that.
True, but I've been saying for some time that our squad is better than last year's aberration and that we need to match or improve on our league position from last year (11th) with a better style of play. It was on Dyche to demonstrate that he could adapt to those players and realise that, and he couldn't

Players of the profile of Godfrey, Onana, Gomes, Alli, Holdgate, all assembled under different managers with different playing styles, all rid of for Lindstrom, Mangala, JOB, Ndiyae, Tim, more technical ball players. And he made us £35m in the summer

Again: I think he's doing a good job.under the circumstances. Slowly shipping out the dead wood whilst building a squad of young players with a more clear common identity behind them. I'm certain that it has been Dyche that has held that identity back, but that's my opinion. Hopefully Moyes brings that out a bit more

Still work to do though, I agree. And some of the players that have been signed aren't up to it. Broja was a baffling one, but maybe worth a punt. Beto is odd but maybe that's got more Dyche to it than Thelwell

On the flip side wouldn't they have offered him a new deal if they wanted him to stay?

Looks very much to me that they're happy to let his contract run down.
It doesn't make sense either way to me.

Either TFG are happy with him but for some reason haven't offered a deal yet.

Or they aren't happy with him, and so likely do not rate him but are trusting him with making a lot of decisions with multi-millions of pounds at stake with impacts on future years.

It's similar to when Mosh was unhappy with Brands and couldn't decide whether to renew him until 2 weeks before it expired.

I personally think they've kept him to show Moyes round any new rooms at FF and to see if he wanted his office decorating.

If they were really impressed with his work I'd have imagined he would have been offered a deal instantly. Maybe he doesn't want a deal, maybe he thinks he's done the best he can and wants a change.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

They haven’t hired a CEO. They really wanted to stick with Dyche but he opted out. I don’t think they’re looking to change things for a bit, and aren’t in the mind to start handing out contract extensions to people they don’t know.

I think they are evaluating him mate.

They'll give him money in January, but it don't be the TFG groups 'big' splurge, that'll come this summer to the tune of 100m plus - like they did at Roma.

January they maybe give him 30-35m plus any sales (Beto, Keane?)

End of season he'll be reviewed based on his how his years signings perform.

The correct way to judge him tbh

Whether you think he’s done a good or bad job up to now or even in between.

It’s a simple equation for me:

He is out on contract in the summer of 2025.

Is he the best DOF Everton can get?

It’s that simple.

I'd like to think they'll evaluate everyone but anyone worth their salt would be going to their employer and say "listen, I've busted my balls in tough times and now your here and you've got a bit of clout, give me the tools and I'll take us to the next level".

I don't get that sense at all that this fella is going to be the man for the job. We'll see though, I like 3 signings he got for the u18s last summer and that makes me think he might have people in place to help him.

Based on that question I'd say no.

I've got my mum ahead of him, about 7 posters on here who pick out players who end up being boss at other clubs, and I'd back my kettle to do a similar job

Just my opinion though.

Tough job over the Moshiri era .. big window for him here and maybe better time to judge when over .

I think as Dyche proved, you can be the right man and achieve good outcomes in a limited context.

When that context changes though can others do it better?

Part of me would be loyal and say he deserves a shot, but another part of me thinks sentimentality is something that hast helped us in the past.

So I end up at…his contract in up…..so is he the best possible DOF we can get?..it’s an opportunity to make sure we get the absolute best we can.

Nothing personal just business,

As i said. Big window for him 👍

I Am looking at the ins though. I dont think there is any justification signing Beto. Regardless of how little funds. He's terrible. Why bring a terrible player. Even if he was free.
Bit like Brands and Doucoure.
Absolutely shocking technique players. If you want to see why Everton are such a poor footballing side just look at the recruitment. I wouldnt have brought those two to the club if someone payed us to take them. Its to the detriment of this club. the fact our DOF are agreeing to them scares me. Never rated brands. Not really rating thelwell. Nothing in their CVs either tell me they were to be put in a postion of placing players on the pitch for this club.
beto was purely a panic buy to get a striker in

i had my doubts about it from the beginning
