I do wonder if it was the plan all along to be honest. It doesn't really make sense otherwise. Had he not have started in the first team, or played and done badly in pre-season I can see the logic behind the idea he has no future here. However why would you throw him our after he has performed well.
Seems to me they want him to have some further experience. If that's the plan and he looks to come in next season I'm happy to get on board with that.
He needs first games and lots of them, a bit like Browning, Galloway, Kenny, Walsh and others who've done all they can in the under 23s.
It would have taken a lot for him to make the kind if impression Davies did and play that amount of games.
I also wonder if the number of new faces plus established young players like DCL, Lookman, Davies and Holgate has made the manager think twice about introducing any untried youngsters into the first team picture this season.
Evidently he was forecast to break through into the first team squad this season , but had a iffy season in the under 23 team - playing well, but not just getting to that necessary level - great left foot on him!
