Indeed. But he’s with Forest until the end of the season and he’ll continue to have some average games and some excellent games, and most importantly learn to play and be involved for the full 90 minutes , as that has been his biggest weakness as many Forest fans have pointed out in their own threads.

At times people either don’t know or conveniently forget Dowell’s past history when they make comments about him being wasted in the U23s last season or should have gone on loan. Anybody who saw him this time last year or read the reports of the U23s games will know he was going through a big dip in form right up until Christmas , it was put down to adjusting to a growth spurt / injuries but it took him until Jan/ Feb time to really start playing again. This time last year he would not have started in a Championship side.
Anyway I’m just going to enjoy performances like tonight, Mark Warburton will look after him and he’ll return a far better player.
Koeman froze him and some of the other young lads out after they'd been told they would be in & around the first team. That's why his form dipped. He wanted to go on loan but was convinced by Unsworth to stay and work on some aspects of his game. He did that and then Koeman bombed him out again & made it clear him, Kenny etc wouldn't be getting anything in way of games and Davies wouldn't be playing much. Unsworth had a big bust up with Koeman over this and result was Unsworth had to deal with Koeman's brother. Thankfully Koeman's gone.

Just to counter the understandable hyperbole on here at the moment , his ability to hit the high notes was never in question , it was his concentration and marked tendency to drift out of games that needed improving and from what I can tell that is still a problem he needs to work on before I ,personally, would be overly excited about his potential return.

Keiran is a very talented lad. The fact he's starting to produce match winning goals in senior football, at a good level is a major positive.

I never wanted him on loan. We miss creativity and he has it in bucket loads. He runs with a great confidence and never looks rushed. I thought he did very well pre-season, in clouding the aforementioned Genk game when he was bombed out after.

With all that being said, I don't think this loan is doing him any harm. He's been rested a fair bit recently, and gone slightly off the boil. Hopefully (and you would imagine) the message will be "end product" not just looking nice in games but making big contributions. He has responded and then some today. Hopefully that can be the catalyst to him consistently adding goals, ideally 15 this season.

Most Forest fans say he's one of the stars of the division. Thats should be the minimum we want. He will grow physically, mentally and learnt to be a team player as a result, and being away from the chaotic regime of Koeman will have helped him. I'm sure we could get him back, but regular football will do him the world of good.

This will sound a bold statement, but if Unsworth gets the jobs full time I can see next season Unsworth getting this lad into the England squad. He needs to keep kicking on, but I think in 18 months he could get to a level beyond even Barkley.

I thought he had a great preseason and he looks a decent player who also happens to know how to put the round spherical thingy into the large structure holding up a net.......
